Trump gives an inaccurate explanation of how pipelines are built and shipped

I guarantee you that Barack Obama can't tell you anything about military weaponry, pipelines, or brain surgery, but that didn't prevent him from bombing Syria, blocking pipelines, or forcing Obamacare on us.

I think Obama has a pretty good idea on how military drones work and what types of arms they can be equipped with.

No. But if I was the president and was about to talk on the subject I'd consult an expert or at least read up on it so I didn't look like a ****ing moron. Something that trump isn't concerned about obviously.

I doubt anyone, outside of the snowflake meltdown, really gives two ****s...lol

The subject of pipelines? No. But while watching him today, my thought was it doesn't even make sense that you would need to cut the pipes to put them on ships, ships are longer than trucks and trucks are how you would need to transport them to the worksite.

That's not the point though. No leader of a country or a corporation would go on television with the whole world watching their every word and just make things up as reasons for their decision knowing that they know nothing about the subject. It just makes him look like a fool and the country as well for electing him.

How do you know he's so far off base?

Actually he's right, to an extent. Pipeline pipe is fabricated in the longest joints possible. The objective is fewer welded seams, therefore fewer places for potential failure.

Another problem with importing pipe, especially if it's shipped, is that the steel (ferrous metal) is exposed to salt. Ultimately, that can indeed be, "bad for the pipe". While the pipe is cleaned and coated here, before it's sent to the pipeline site, it's still another failure variable that has to be factored in.

You do want materials of the highest quality to be used in pipeline construction, yes? Or, would you rather do it old school and wrap the pipe in asbestos? The asbestos worked great; gotta give it that.

Are you saying trump supporters don't care if he knows what he's talking about? Obviously.

On this particular subject, no, I don't care. As I already pointed out, none of you know enough about the subject to claim he's wrong, anyway.

I care anytime our president just make things up, because it makes him look like an idiot and the country by association.

Any we do know enough to comment on the subject, because we read the article. We did our homework before posting unlike Trump who just makes it up as he goes along. From the article:

"These are big pipes. Now, the only way I can imagine they [ship them] is they must have to cut them. Because they're so big, I can't imagine — they take up so much room — I can't imagine you could put that much pipe on ships. It's not enough. It's not long enough," he said.

"So I assume they have to fabricate and cut, which hurts the pipe, by the way," he said.

A spokesperson for the Association of Oil Pipe Lines said he had never heard of foreign pipe makers cutting segments into portions to send them overseas. Manufacturers create pipes in lengths that can be shipped rather than chopping up vast lengths of pipe.

TransCanada, the company behind the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, also told CNBC that pipes it buys from overseas are not cut into smaller segments before being shipped.

Wow....welcome to Erod's world of 'apples and oranges'.

What the heck does Obama making policy mistakes have to do in the slightest with Trump stating things that he clearly knows nothing about?

The answer is...nothing at all.

What is next from Erod's 'Apples and Oranges'?

'So what if Trump had no idea what a nuclear triad was, but acted like he did...Obama is a lousy golfer.'

(theoretical...not actually stated by Erod...to my knowledge)

Why does he keep making stuff up? This is really bothersome that someone who is the leader of the most powerful country in the world does this! First, it makes the United States look like we are morons to the rest of the world. But even more concerning is that when he makes decisions for the country based on things he just makes up who knows what kind of wasteful, expensive, dangerous, counter productive and potentially fatal consequences will result.

Would that Trump's inaccurate understanding of how piping was shipped were the worst problem we faced.

I'm more surprised that someone took the time to write an article about this, and that it was published.

Umm... a proper weld is stronger than the surrounding material!! Cuts would make it more expensive, but they wouldn't weaken the pipes.

Sad that people are becoming so immune to Trump just making stuff up that they think it's not news anymore. There's something really, really wrong with this guy!

No, there is something really, really wrong with people who so obsessed with Trump that they find fault in every little thing he does -- including *gasp* stating an assumption about how pipes are manufactured.

Why is he speaking from ignorance?

Oh right, because his supporters don't care what he says. They want him to **** up so all the sane people who care about reality complain.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic and saying that it's not news because he always makes things up? This was from his meeting today with small business leaders.

How does this actually have any influence on how the country is run? Is it a policy statement? Does it reduce the amount of Cheerios one can consume in a day? It isn't news. It's just another thing for someone to bitch about but it isn't breaking news.

On another note I wonder how long it will be before someone makes a Nazi or Hitler comparison in this thread. Nazi cuz Trump and pipe.

he is making stuff up?

what he said is accurate. they can't be the longer lengths we would get from products stateside, they fabricate smaller lengths and then splice them together when arriving on shore.

are the spliced pipes weaker as a result? your article doesn't dispute it. That portion needs to be false to render his statements inaccurate.

No one is an expert in everything. The difference is that if Obama wasn't well versed in something, he didn't go on TV and act like he did and embarrass himself and the country. When he had to make a decision he tried to gather all the facts before he made it. Trump really doesn't seem to trust anyone except his family. He knows more than the generals. He wants solutions that fit his preconceived notions. He doesn't even trust photographic evidence!

Really? Every word Obama says here was a lie, whether he believed it was true or not:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPNs7Y2HPwY

The truth was that we could keep your doctor unless he isn't covered under Obamacare or is forced out by Obamacare. (My husband and I lost our primary physicians and he lost his cancer doctor due to Obamacare.) We could keep our healthcare plan if it meets the requirements for Obamacare--many millions lost their insurance because those plans didn't meet Obamacare requirements. Etc.

So tell me. Was Obama knowledgeable about what was actually in the legislation and therefore lying like a rug? Or he didn't have a clue and was just making it all up. And he didn't even qualify his remarks with "I suppose" or "probably."

Trump is trying to increase American made products being used and even gets attacked for that

the left has completely lost it.

cookoo cookoo

Donald Trump just making **** up as he goes along!!!??? Say it's not so!

hey, aren't you a scientist?

you think a pipe fabricated 40 foot long is structurally more sound then 2 20 foot long pipes spliced together after shipping?

I know what a plumber would say. what does the scientific community think?
