Trump executive order: US judge temporarily halts deportations

Right, this does not overturn the executive order, it just prevents people who would have been deported by it from having to leave the country.

It's only a first step, but a sure sign that people will fight against actions taken by our administration that go against American values.

As an aside, it looks like Trump's EO's are being written by Bannon, his senior advisor (yes, the same Bannon who's website praised neo-nazi Richard Spencer as a leading intellectual) so this might not be the first time this administrations executive orders are challenged in such a way.

Well, it's a democracy, so it is to be expected people will object to the order.
Unfortunately for those folks, it's a country of laws, and the law is on the presidents side. It will need to be fought in the political world, not the legal.

How did you manage to write that without your head exploding?

I don't know why it would. Your disagreement with Trump's actions here doesn't mean Trump lacks the authority to take those actions.
He absolutely does have the authority. So the issue becomes a political issue, put out pressure and force him to reverse course.

Stop putting your fingers in your ears and shouting "La la la" without any evidence to back up your mind-numbing accusations.

Trump's Muslim ban excludes countries linked to his businesses - NY Daily News

iLOL
It is your mind numbing accusation that you have not supported.

Again stop making things up to believe.

If you have evidence to suggest the reason is because of business ties provided it. (what you provided isn't evidence) But since you don't have any such evidence can your bs and stop making things up to believe.

The article clearly outlines the conflict of interest, using widely available evidence. Flap your gums and pretend black is white and up is down all you want. You've been proven wrong. Have a nice day!

I'd say that the people who protested at airports all over the country today to do the right thing are the face of the left right now. And I for one am extremely proud.

Ever tune into BBC every night they reveal the protests in 3rd world countries, Thursday it was Venezuela,
Friday it was Gambia I haven't turned on BBC today. These protestors in the USA never seem to stop tonight
there at the airports. Protests make the USA look like a real 3rd world outpost.

Stop flappinig your gums.
You made an unsupportable accusation (made something up to believe) that it was "because" of his business ties when you have no idea what you are ****ing talking about.

Again.

Trump isn't banning anyone from Egypt, the UAE or Saudi Arabia because he has business ties to them!
Stop making things up to believe.

Do you really not understand what you said above?
"Because he has business ties". You do not know that to be the reason, let alone a reason. You made it up.

You are absolutely wrong!

The Department of Homeland Security targeted these seven countries over the last years as countries of concern. In February 2016 “The Department of Homeland Security today announced that it is continuing its implementation of the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 with the addition of Libya, Somalia, and Yemen as three countries of concern, limiting Visa Waiver Program travel for certain individuals who have traveled to these countries.” It noted “the three additional countries designated today join Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Syria as countries subject to restrictions for Visa Waiver Program travel for certain individuals.” It was the US policy under Obama to restrict and target people “who have been present in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, at any time on or after March 1, 2011 (with limited government/military exceptions).” This was text of the US Customs and Border Protection in 2015 relating to “the Visa Waiver Program and Terrorist Travel Protection Act of 2015“. The link even includes the seven nation list in it: “Iraq, Syria, Iran, SUdan, Somalia or Yemen.” And the media knew this back in May 2016 when some civil rights groups complained about it.

Our democracy is stronger than one man. Thank the founders for checks and balances.

A huge thank-you to the good people protesting at airports, the federal judge who came to this decision, and the ACLU for bringing this lawsuit forward. Every single one of them is a god damn patriot. This is only band-aid right now, not an overturning but just a temporary halt. Still a long way to go.

Not sure how the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 applies here. It banned the quota system that was in place. A quota system that was designed to keep white people in power. It didn't ban the banning of immigration from entire countries due to national security concerns afaik. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Particularly in light of the Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015

He needs to chill the **** out. If he goes ape-**** over this he might not even last four years.

"Might not?" The man has one foot on the edge of a precipice and the other foot on a banana peel.

And he's only been in office for a week!

At least he would be professional and not make the US look like a joke run by an idiot like trump does. I'd take pence over trump.

Pence has his own retard moves (I should know he was my governor) but is a better option.

It's true. Trump has business ties all over the world. Haven't you been paying attention?

So you're suggesting Trump shouldn't intereract with any of these nations because he had business ties to them?

So it boils down to unelected liberal judges against the elected president

So it boils down to unelected liberal judges against the elected president

The incredibly incompetent elected president and his incompetent inner circle, yes.

His inner circle drafted the order, didn't seek any guidance or advice from the agencies tasked to carry it out, briefed them on the order basically as it was being signed, and left all those agencies twisting in the wind as to what it all meant. At one point the OLC (I think) determined the order didn't affect those holding valid visas or green card holders, then Trump's inner circle (Bannon and Miller) overruled that. Now this morning Priebus says, no, the order doesn't affect those with green cards. Well who the fK knows what the hell Trump intended the order to do because it was drafted by incompetents who didn't know or care they were incompetent and so didn't bother to have it reviewed by people who were competent, and threw the system into turmoil.

All the "liberal judge" did was say, effectively, "Hold on while adults figure this crap out. In the meantime, no one who we've given permission to be in this country and to travel here will be deported, and they get access to legal counsel." Nothing wrong with that.

As usual people are playing their partisan games instead of looking at the serious meaning of what's going on. Yes executive orders have been intrinsic to the Presidency, but they were significantly expanded under George W. Bush to serve the elites - the same elites Obama served. We have successive Presidencies waging wars on foreign countries by calling them "interventions" so that Congressional approval can be waived. Now we have a single man banning nationals just because he says so. It happened because the People were made to feel afraid that their security and democracy were about to be taken away from them by a small group of terrorists, so everyone went clamoring to the government to hand over more power to the Executive.

The short memory that people have is infuriating. They turn around and act like there is some kind of historical precedent for these actions just because executive orders are part of the branches of power and they want to punish their political enemies; but normally this kind of crap would have required Congressional approval and now it DOESN'T. Wake up people!

Trump isn't banning anyone from Egypt, the UAE or Saudi Arabia because he has business ties to them! Where the hell was Osama Bin Laden born?

Well said. I have a slightly different thought, but much in line with what you have said. Rather than short memory, I believe it is more ignorance of the system. Bush and Obama, and Bush, and Reagan, and Carter, etc. All used executive orders. The biggest difference though was the process. The president would figure out the logistics of the order, run it passed lawyers, hit up the congress, etc. Steps. Stages. Then when the agency heads were told how the order would affect their policy, the executive order would be signed. And the orders had teeth. These Trump orders cater to his campaign promises to a tee. As well, they expose some of his campaign problems.

It doesn't matter what Trump can say, it is what can be done. So far, lol, one week into office, Millions have protested Trump for several reasons, judges have struck down key campaign promises, Republican leaders have begged him to shut up, and so on. I foresee him doing something impeachment worthy on accident.

He had no idea how to assemble a cabinet. Agency leaders are walking out left and right. He doesn't know, and neither will he listen to anyone, about processes. His admin leaks quotes about his childish nature and fondness for TV over work. He just can't do the job.

And the Chicken Little act continues. Gimme a break already.

I can see Trump passing a Chicken Little act. "America doesn't have little Chickens. So Mad! Our chickens are the biggest... They are just YUGE! With Obama we all had little chickens, ok, tiny. Pathetic. Little Chickens. By signing this order America now has the biggest chickens again."

Nice try, but I'm not sure who you think you're kidding. Yourself?

A few things I noticed. Sky is blue. Sun rise in the east. Most trees are tall. Dog is man's best friend. Spicer held a press conference to talk about how big the crowds were. Water is wet. Planes fly. Dolphins are not fish.

Don't quit your day job. ;)

Who was first to bring up the subject of crowd size, the MSM, or Spicer?
