Gorbachev writes: World looks like it's preparing for war

Re: So While We Argue

I don't really think you can denigrate DJT regularly, and call his sincerity into question repeatedly, and then cite him as an authority to buttress your view.

I'm not using him as an authority.

Just pointing out the silly notion that a man with the same views as Obama would have done any differently. If you supported Iraq and voted for Trump because Obama screwed it up....

Re: So While We Argue

Backing up your claims is for liberals. Not for Trumpeteers.

I know the exchanges he's referencing.

He was absoutely and definitively destroyed in them and he still carries the weight of that around with him.

I supported Iraq. BHO screwed it up. I did not vote for Trump.

Re: So While We Argue

Did you know that there's a man currently in the Executive branch who also thinks Iraq was a mistake? You may have heard of him - Donald Trump.

Very cute....See, this is all liberal posters like yourself have, snark, and name calling....The difference between me, and your characterization of me is that I don't have to agree with 100% of everything President Trump says in order to support his actions as President.

Backing up your claims is for liberals. Not for Trumpeteers.

As I said name calling like children is all the liberal left can do.

Re: So While We Argue

Sorry you got triggered and had to run from your own post.

Not going to rehash old debates...nothing to be sorry about, I'm all smiles here...It's real simple you attempted to derail, and I wouldn't take the bait....So, on to your next attempt.

Newp. Asking you to elaborate on a post that you made isn't 'derailing' anything, but you keep telling yourself that it is to make yourself feel better about running away from it.

So cute how you try to turn my own arguments against me....I answered your question, you said you disagreed....There you have it....Now it is just plain harassment because I don't agree with you...

Re: So While We Argue

Not surprising. We have been derelict with our big stick persona for too long.

How long is too long

The US has been bombing Syria in the last few months, along with Afghanstan, Iraq, and Yemen. So is a few days too long ?

My dear Lord Tammerlain, I can take THAT description right back to Vietnam Nam.

Sorry to burst your absolutism bubble, but I've only been on this Forum for about 2 weeks, and most of the name calling, cursing, etc, have come from the Rightists.

So while we argue about whether or not some illegals voted in the election, which bathroom people can use, or any other subject that seems so important these days, some people are seeing the world as it is:

Having Fun Yet?

Comment if you wish.
This is what keeps me up at night.

There's a fundamental lack of understanding about how nuclear arsenals affect war. Yes nuclear weapons have probably saved more lives than modern medicine. Yes the prospect of a nuclear war is so unthinkable that the thought of anyone using it seems idiotic. Everyone knows that everyone loses if anyone uses nukes.

But unthinkable doesn't mean impossible or even unlikely. One of the first widescale uses of Game Theory was modeling nuclear launch decision making. Studying game theory, you run into all sorts of old Cold War strategic research papers.

And the lesson is that given the right situation, everyone loses... even if there is an obvious way out. ie the prisoners dilemma. Nuclear weapons are a security blanket that keeps us from getting into major wars. But in exchange we have to walk a minefield. It's very easy to walk into a trap where the first few steps seem perfectly rational, but eventually everyone's choices narrow until nuclear war is all that remains.

Splitting the atom, whether for nuclear war or nuclear power is a bad idea...

Maybe... but it doesn't matter. Bad idea or not it's the only decision if you can't control your adversaries. Nash equilibrium.

Also, it's worth gaming out how Korea ends without atomic weapons. It's difficult to see politically how Truman holds back the forces pushing him forward. As it was, opposing McAurthur crippled him.

Re: So While We Argue

A war between who? Which nations? Global economics, international banking, and the Internet will not allow a world war.w

Think about it. We imposed sanctions on Russia, and we've probably killed more people there because of it that all the bullets fired in Irag. China? That would mean we stop buying their ****, cold turkey. A deal they're not gonna take. A deal they want so bad, they even agree to try to keep North Korea in check. Somewhat. No, modern war is exactly as it has been. Stateless.
If we're talking about a shooting war like Iraq, agreed. Trump is too unpopular and untrustworthy. Unfortunatly the decisions to engage in the wars Trump can get us in don't work like that.

Trump wins by bullying. It's like only throwing rock in Rock Paper Scissors and using your rock to punch the other guy in the face if they throw paper. But that is a terrible trait when playing nuclear poker. Just as being too dovish invites a first strike, so too does being too hawkish.

Re: So While We Argue

I agree with Gorbachev. When aggression meets weakness the chance of conflict greatly increases. There are a number of flash points that are worrisome. I will name a few standouts: Lithuania, Iran, South China Seas and of course that crazy person in North Korea. The weakness is, of course, the Western nations, especially the USA.

Love him or hate him, Trump, I hope will build up the military of the USA to a point it cannot be challenged by any reasonable person and be over powering if a crazy person, in facts, tries.

If the world devolves into war, it will be because of people like you posting in this thread and the ridiculousness of the tit for tat bull****.

Holy ****, people.

We have a new President. He has since he has been in office...taken steps to enforce existing US immigration law, and imposed an executive order designed to improve the vetting process for people from the top 7 most dangerous countries with potential terrorist threat as described by the PREVIOUS president.

Thats it.

And this has us heading to war??? Hell...if ANYTHING, the relations between the US and Russia were damaged over the PREVIOUS 8 years...and was anyone freaking out over war then?

We had a nice little protest for womens rights against policies that...no wait...no policies were imposed. Just a bunch of angry women pissed off about Trump and a comment he made 9 years ago. Mind you...those same women were perfectly fine with a rat president that raped and assaulted women...but thats not important.

We have people protesting over a 'muslim ban', even though the EO only impacts 7 of the 50 majority Muslim nations out of the 196 countries on the planet and none of the Muslims in the other 43 Countries are impacted.

Re ****in lax already.
