Texas Gov. Abbott threatens to oust officials who promote sanctuary cities | Fox News

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is vowing to pursue legislation to "remove from office" any official who promotes sanctuary cities -- potentially raising the stakes for local sheriffs and mayors who defy federal law.
The proposal also could set up a legal showdown between local and state officials in the Lone Star State.
Abbott announced the legislation in an interview Wednesday with "Fox & Friends," saying he and fellow Republicans in the Texas legislature are working to ban sanctuary cities and impose financial and criminal penalties on officials who fail to comply.
Good bye sanctuary cities. Apparently a mayor in Florida is also comply with federal law.

Because putting illegal immigrants in jail with hardened criminals could never end badly.

Do you even know what it means to be a "sanctuary" city?

It means if you call the cops to report a crime, they won't arrest you. Expect cities to he a lot less safe as this progresses.

A criminal is a criminal.

Take it up with the justice system.

I have seen American citizens serve time for for a bag of weed.

And they shouldn't, all this will do is allow gangs a larger pool to recruit from.

There would not be a pool if they were not illegal to begin with.

Pretty simple.

You are making their crime a American responsibility, which shouldn't be to begin with.

Can we send 12 million to downtown Montreal and expect the same answer from you?

Its always nice when the feds come down on states. I mean when states come down on cities. Whatever. No need for the local democratically elected officials have any say. And notice, he is seeking a law to allow him to "oust." Currently only elections can "oust" officials. Guess we should change that too. And Abbott is the King of challenging every fed law there is. 27 cases. 22 Frivolous. Now he is all buddy buddy with the fed? My neck hurts.

Did you read that part of the Constitution where it says Congress make laws of naturalization? Yeah, so that little town has zero say in it. I'm a Constitutionalist, and believe in following ours. The town/city will have to comply with federal law.

They have no mandate under the law to be the enforcer of a Federal law, that is the various Federal agencies job. If they grab someone for a crime they hold them, but for trial first. They have no responsibility for conducting INS raids, once again the Feds job. Anyway, trump and the idiots in some state houses are going to do what they, we shall see how that turns out in the long run.

The Constitution says congress makes the law. The presidency then builds the agency. Then he goes back to get funding for operations. With GOP majorities everywhere this might be the era that partisan politics allows this to happen, but what are the odds with different powers in branches? Also, Are you Southern Proud Confed flag? I seem to remember Virginia's nullification era. What about OK nullifying Obamacare?

Try looking over these cases
Printz v. United States
New York v. United States

There is alot more about the concept of nullification. Have you heard that term before or examined it? What have you found?

I thought most "Constitutionalists" tended to support State's Right over the Fed Supremacy Clause.

Abbott is an idiot. Case in point--- his comments on Jade Helm.

How could I forget about Jade Helm? Oh yeah, Trump. Anyway, how did that investigation work out there Greg? Is Texas still a state? Haven't all the guns been confiscated and the men forced to wear skirts? Abbott must be communicating from a hidden bunker somewhere deep in the desert to avoid capture. Or...he could just be a fool pretending to be a governor. Somebody should put up Jade Helm bill boards all over Texas, lest we forget the tyranny.

I spit on the sidewalk today, report me!

So If one has an undocumented neighbor who murders someone at their own home and said one calls the cops to report the murder, given PC, the suspect will be detained regardless of immigration status. If a driver is pulled over for speeding he may be issued a citation for speeding, however, if that driver is shown to be undocumented, and is in a sanctuary city, he will not be held on an immigration detainer. If it happens outside a sanctuary city the locals only detain, at their cost. They then refer to the feds. At the Feds cost, the ball keeps rolling. Should the fed say they do not wish to prosecute, the city has no further jurisdiction than the original citation. However, I have met NO cops or DAs who would not prosecute a state crime or even a municipal violation BECAUSE the suspect is illegal. That makes no sense.

Abbott can't fire people. He's just saber rattling. That's how he rolls.

Here in the Lonestar state, we employ more illegals than most states, except maybe CA.

We're about to see the bankruptcies of thousands of small businesses. That is, IF it happens. I wouldn't hold my breath. This will all blow over once Kim Jong Un insults the facsist on Twitter.

I think oil and a glut of it is going to be a very big problem for us Texans.

Well wait a second. That is a part of it and that part I think most people would agree with. The other side though is that if you are pulled over or arrested in a sanctuary city, they do not notify the feds if they believe you to be here illegally and that is the part I think many people would disagree with.

If the person is here illegally they should be deported

Guess you've never seen the Hill Country. :lamo

Did you? What you should have thought of was original intent. We support a balance of power. The federal power has limited and enumerated powers. Immigration being one of them.

Yea the "war" on drugs is wonderful. What a waste of law enforcement. Might as well arrest some one on their way home from the liquor store.

I'm well aware of their duties, and no one asked them too. They have no right to give sanctuary to criminals.

The necessary and proper clause is the check on enumerated powers. That is the balance. The power to create the Fed or a National Bank is not enumerated. That was done under necessary and proper. Also the supremacy clause plays here as a balance on limited. Immigration is enumerated. But they still have to create an agency, fund operations, and carry out the law. Over the centuries it appears more than they could manage. Just because it is enumerated doesn't mean it is possible given, funding, logistics, and political will.

Road and building construction will grind to a halt. Foremen are going to have to teach people off the street how to do the jobs, just to have them quit after the first payday because it's too hot.
