Democrats introduce bill to take nuclear football out of Trump's hands

Not necessarily.

President Trump asked us why we don't use nukes. That's some scary ****.
It's a charade if thy are trying to limit President Trump in ways that past Presidents were not. "Scary" is a relative term.

Not necessarily. Past presidents did not give us cause to be concerned with their judgements on this topic.

My grandfather was a colonel in the airforce who spent much of his career fighting for the SALT negotiations and limitations on nuclear armament.

Now we have a buffoon in the white house who boasts that we should build more nukes and suggests that we should use them. Sorry; it is absolutely ****ing terrifying to me that he might be partially sincere in that and i hope congress places appropriate processes in place to ensure that the president cannot unilaterally decide to destroy the planet.

Apparently you missed the hysteria when Reagan took office. It was worse than this. MUCH worse.

Congress should do nothing and I doubt they will. This is little more than a few D's posing for the cameras.

You're absolutely right on the first point, i have no insight into the context of President Reagan's inauguration.

I think launching nukes should require the approval of more than one man and the cabinet official he appointed.

Of course it's partisan! Specifically, partisan against the biggest loose cannon we've had as a president in recent memory. But thanks for moving the goalposts, since you couldn't stick me on "leftwingers being in lockstep."

Who the hell thought that we liberals marched in lockstep, just like we did with the bitter Bernie-vs.-Hillary rivalry?!

While this is all political posturing, I'm sure any law like this would have caveats in case of such a disastrous turn of events.

Such as launching a nuclear weapon.

This bill's intentions of preventing a "mad man" from striking at will would ironically destroy our deterrent.

I seriously doubt if we were under direct attack on our land that there wouldn't be a special session with an expedited move.

You couldn't get them in the room quick enough, let alone vote.

We would need to see the mushroom clouds before we can verify.

We wouldn't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud!

That quote applies to W, Powell, Cheney and Rice.

The nuclear football is the presidents and no one else's
this bill is dead on arrival.

I love the liberal meltdown though. it is just hilarious.

Interesting using "meltdown" in a nuke thread.

The POTUS has never been able to launch a nuke. There are two other people that have to show up and insert keys and enter codes. The fascist just tells FIRE!

it is meant to show how mentally unstable trump is

It's going to backfire, like everything else the Left has tried for the past year.

with his constant twitter tantrums over petty and insignificant things, trump will do the damage to himself.

Trump isn't going to do something that goes against his own best interests. A nuclear war would go against his and every other rich person's interests. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I DO think we need to start taking away the President's power to wage "war" without Congressional approval. But that is irrespective of who is President.

They did. They passed the war powers act. Presidents immediately ignored it. Congress didnt call them on it. The people didnt hold anyone accountable.

We would need to see the mushroom clouds before we can verify.

No, need a committee to investigate the matter, a panel to recommend the best coure of action, and of course do some polling first.

On a separate note, who here can say with absolute sincerity that they're okay with the idea that trump now has the final word in declaring nuclear war?

I'm not okay with anybody having that final word. But that is the way we do it. Trump is as good or bad as anyone else.
