After many irregularities and distractions from inauguration day forward, we finally have our first official White House press conference. Anyone that follows me or my posting history here, is aware of my opinion of President Trump and his new administration. My opinion worsened this weekend. However after what I saw as a disastrous weekend, I believe they finally got it going today - and Mr. Spicer did pretty well.

We saw Trump's CIA speech, and we saw Spicer's brief Saturday's press statement. Now we see today's official White House Conference.

Opinions?

I will have to watch this video later tonight, but the one from Saturday made me question if the dude is a huge cokehead.

I saw a totally different guy up there today, enough so that I decided to post it. I think he or they made the calculated decision to try to act Presidential - at least from Spicer's end. I tuned-in today specifically, because Saturday was such a disaster.

Quite honestly, I think the media and the marches - particularly the marches - had the Trump team spooked Saturday.

I watched much of the conference, though I missed the very beginning. My thoughts:

1. I liked the fact that Spicer skipped over the mainstream reporters initially and took very good questions from other news agencies. I think he answered them well and honestly.

2. When he got to that ABC guy, things went downhill because that guy took WAY too much time...even to the point of arguing with Spicer...talking about that spanking they got last Saturday. Frankly, it did nothing but prevent any other reporters from asking interesting and important questions.

3. Other mainstream reporters, when they got a chance, continued the ABC guy's tact and it just got plain silly...to the point where they were asking how many Trump staff were at the CIA meeting and whether they were in the front row or not.

4. Spicer finally had enough of that crap and lit into them...again...and rightfully so. I think of that as kind of a "mini-spanking". They deserved it.

5. After a few more questions about important matters, Spicer closed the get-together.

Personally, I liked the open and honest questions and answers about such things as Trump's meetings, his upcoming meeting with the British PM, Syria and our possible cooperation there with the Russians and others. The mainstream media sideshow part...I didn't care for so much.

I thought he did a good job. Hope he keeps it up. There are fences to be mended, and it always bodes well well one side starts mending.

I missed a moment or two during the live stream, and apparently one was the national networks rebuff.

Like you, I though he went into it too deep with ABC. He coulda' just touched on it, and let it be. It seemed the reporter didn't want to go too deep either, but Spicer seemed to almost encourage it. I thought this interaction was the one he handled poorly, of those I saw.

I have to disagree with you. It seemed to me that Spicer answered the ABC reporter's question, but the reporter didn't want to let it go with that answer. He came back with more stuff that seemed to be nothing but nitpicking. In fact, he didn't stop until Spicer simply moved on to another reporter. And then, as I said, other mainstream reporters wanted to rehash the whole thing again and again. That's when Spicer went with him mini-spanking.

To sum it up, "Everyone needs to be nicer and more considerate to us." That said, he did a hard 180 from the cluster**** of a performance on Saturday.

Well anyway, I woulda' gave ABC the brush after the initial question was answered.

People should remember...Spicer is NOTHING but a mouth piece for Trump.

I would not want his job for almost anything...worse then the V.P.. I.E. You must say exactly what you are told to say. You can have zero opinions.

That would drive me crazy.

I wonder if that played into Saturday's Spicer debacle.

I think Trump was teed-off about the media inauguration count and the march on Washington, and may have given Spicer marching orders that could have gone against his instincts.

Only conjecture, of course.

In a way, President Trump's gambit has paid off beautifully. Expectations are so low that they can basically accomplish nothing and still be set up for praise.

That's been the case since April.

Personally...I think that is EXACTLY what happened on Saturday.

We know Trump is big on ratings and numbers. And he gets VERY touchy whenever anyone questions his popularity/wealth.

I think Trump was furious and sent Spicer out to make a statement for him...which is why Spicer took no questions on Saturday. I almost felt sorry for the guy as I watched him.

I liked when he couldn't give us an answer about the trump supporters that were in the audience during the CIA visit: https://www.yahoo.com/news/white-ho...supporters-during-cia-hq-visit-221739210.html. Why is Trump obsessed about cheering and crowds??? Maybe it's cause that's all he knows.

I used to think Spkr Boehner had the toughest job in Washington, but now that torch may have been handed down to Secy Spicer (after passing through Priebus & Ryan):

"Spicer, I want you to go out there and lie to them to quell this nonsense!"

"But Boss! That's not the way to handle it!"

"Spicer, you're..."

"On my way there, boss"!

*zing*

This just goes to show. Trump is better at telling his own lies.

Yeah, I know what you're saying here, but he appeared reasonably legit enough there. He said, "around 10", after verifying with someone on the sideline. But who knows?

However, you are 110% right about Trump needing adulation. I don't think I've ever seen an adult so tenacious and starved for perfect adulation. And I think that's the way you get to him: Denigrate his person as perceived in the eye's of the many. Which is why I think the Saturday marches got to them (him), and they became discombobulated.

But it's a terrible quality in a President. He wreaks of unPresidential qualities, but there he is!

Again, I have to disagree with you.

Look, Trump doesn't like these games the mainstream media have been playing, but he's not taking it personal as you are implying. He understands the damage the media is doing to the country and he is taking steps to combat them. The spanking Saturday and the venting today were part of his plan. I think it's working.

What we saw today were interesting and thoughtful questions asked in a respectful manner by many reporters...and continued childish, destructive behavior from the mainstream reporters. Don't think this went unnoticed. Sure, those mainstream organizations are loud, but their popularity is in the tank. By alternating spanking those guys and treating their betters with respect, the rest of the media is getting the message and those mainstream idiots will be shut out by their colleagues, by the Trump administration and by the public. (except, of course, those left-wing idiots who are consumed by their Trump-hatred)

In the meantime, Trump continues to work, continues to fulfill the promises he made that got him elected.

It'll take time, of course, but I think our country will be better for it.

O'Reilly has a good take on the whole thing...

I think the elites in the press corp, front row, feed off each other being of the same elite club. People are more interested in what the govt is doing than their little pissing match with the new administration.

This just goes to show. Trump is better at telling his own lies.

Bingo. Trump saw the results of the Saturday announcement and instantly thought, "Ooh, yeah, I'm better at this slash and burn tactic than him. Better tell him to dial it down."

I almost spat my coffee out when he said "Democrats need to stop playing politics with the functions of government". How he had the nerve to say that after the Republicans blocked Obama's pick for scotus!
