President Donald Trump told business leaders on Monday he believes he can cut regulations by 75 percent or "maybe more."

At the White House with 10 senior executives, he repeated his campaign pledges to roll back corporate rules, arguing that they have "gotten out of control." A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to a request to elaborate on which rules Trump will target or how the 75 percent was calculated.

Very nice. More of course is better.

Whether or not this is a good thing completely depends on which regulations we are talking about.

Without proper law & regulation, you will never have or enjoy freedom.

I'm all for getting rid of burdensome regulations that hurt businesses unnecessarily.

But a carte blanche cheque to get rid of regulations in the American context almost always means companies coming up with ways to **** consumers or damage the environment.

As just one example, Trump supporters will finally learn, albeit the hard way, why Net Neutrality was always such a big deal.

No, no, I don't want to derail the thread into another nonsense train wreck where one side futilely tries to explain what NN is, because that doesn't work. The end of NN is how they will learn.

The end of any regulation is how they will learn.

Don't forget screw over employees...

My guess is would could get rid of even more regulation.

Regulation is needed because we have Clinton and Leftist types who live to break the rules of civil society.

I suggest people read the article in whole.

I intentionally left out an important part.

Nice meme, now total all the regulations and show which 75% are going to be cut. Until then, 75% is just a number he pulled out of his ass to make himself look good.

It will depend on the regulations.

I see quite a few rolled back on coal and oil and natural gas regulations.
I see some rolled back on car industries etc ...

a lot of the nonsense that the EPA has shoved down peoples throats will be gone as well.

Things like clean air and water will be ok.

Fewer regulations = more freedom

Often. Maybe even usually. But not always.

What about the freedom to breath clean. Without regulations some corporations would pollute much more. Or the freedom to drive on safe roads. Without regulations many more truck drivers would be pushed to drive too many hours without sleep.

It depends on how he plans on the execution of eliminating regulations. Gore just took 50,000 pages and threw them in the garbage without any guidance as how to fill the gap of the discarded regulations. Policies related to purchasing, employee conduct, dispute resolution, contract oversight and ethics were up in the air. It caused a huge problem.

Common sense regulation that ensures freedom of fair competition is fine.

But regulation for political purposes, or for the sake of growing government unnecessarily, should be stricken altogether.

My bet is we could cut more.

The most famous Chinese restaurant in NYC closed due to over-regulation.

The government is out of control.

It's time to slash it to the bone, and stuff the remainder into the small little box the founders intended.

I hope Trump succeeds.

I feel confident knowing that actual business people, not lawyers trained only to be politicians, are overseeing this.

LOL... Unions have screwed 'em alright.

Federal Employee unions are different than your usual union. They actually do work for the employee. Union representatives in federal union locals are volunteer and don't receive any additional pay. Federal employees aren't required to pay union dues. They can't be forced to pay union dues. Dues are totally voluntary. Federal employee unions have to represent every employee whether that employee pays dues or not. Federal Employee unions can't negotiate wages or benefits. Those are set by regulation or statue. Regulations and statutes are non negotiable.
