Glenn Greenwald: Democrats hoping intelligence agencies will 'undermine and subvert' Trump presidency | Fox News




Journalist Glenn Greenwald told Fox News Thursday that there is "obvious open warfare" between the intelligence community and President-elect Donald Trump, with Democrats "openly calling for and cheering for the intervention of the CIA."

Greenwald spoke to "Tucker Carlson Tonight" regarding reports that Trump and President Barack Obama had been briefed about unverified allegations that Russian spies had collected compromising personal and financial information about the president-elect. A dossier containing the most salacious allegations was published by BuzzFeed earlier this week.

Greenwald said Democrats and liberals are "hoping ... that this unelected faction in Washington will undermine and subvert and destroy the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s presidency before he’s even inaugurated and I think what you’re seeing is actually quite dangerous."

The Intercept writer told Carlson that he believed the Central Intelligence Agency supported Democrat Hillary Clinton during the recent presidentil election because Trump "was a threat to the CIA’s primary institutional priority of regime change in Syria.

"Beyond that," Greenwald added, "Clinton wanted a much more confrontational and belligerent posture toward Moscow, which the CIA has been acrimonious with for decades, whereas Trump wanted better relations. I think they viewed Trump as a threat to their institutional preeminence, to their ability to get their agenda imposed on Washington."

The Deep State are flexing their muscles and trying to show Trump who's boss. Sorry guys, but this isn't a 3rd world banana republic. If you want to set the policy, then go run for election. If you unelected people think it's your business to bully elected people, then to borrow a phrase:

Interesting take. Certainly possible even though most career CIA personnel, particularly those on the pointy end of the spear, are Republicans. If Trump feels the CIA is a threat all he would have to do is replace the senior most folks.

Well, as we know, Trump had to fight his way through the primaries to win the Republican nomination, and didn't have it handed to him on a silver platter. So it's not like he's the pet of the GOP Establishment. Unfortunately, too many at the CIA and related agencies are wedded to conflict with Russia. No wonder they never saw 9/11 coming - they were all too busy staring at Putin. No wonder China's been able to steal America's lunch on the economic & trade front, growing into a huge behemoth right under America's nose - because the "intelligence community" were all busy staring at Putin.

A "Russia Last" policy doesn't automatically help make America First.

I think we throw acronyms around too much and are not specific enough. There is a difference when referring to the CIA rather than Obama Administration CIA appointees. I generally trust the CIA. I don't trust Brennan.
