John Kerry finds Vietnam War site where he killed a man

I thought this was a moving and thoughtful story. Shorn of all politics, it's a reminder that even the powerful don't ever forget their wartime experiences. It's admittedly difficult to imagine the grey-haired and controversial Kerry storming a river bank and killing a man, but it obviously happened. This article helped me see him as he once was: a young man at war.

"One aide to Mr Kerry told the Washington Post that the former military man had been searching Google Maps for the site of the ambush. On Thursday, he was said to have woken, jetlagged, in the middle of the night in his Hanoi hotel and called one of his old crew members to rack his brains."

I'm glad he got to make the rendezvous.

John Kerry finds Vietnam War site where he killed a man - BBC News

Most people who have "killed a man" in war, don't self aggrandize the act like this.

**** that traitor anyway.

Which statement seemed like "self-aggrandizing?"

Another conservative bashing a veteran.

What about the B52 pilots, F4 pilots, other pilots, helicopter pilots, navy off shore gunners, artillerymen, mortar men, machine gunners, and ultimately, the anonymous grunts no one cares about? US and allied forces killed around 2 million people give or take a million. You killed one. So you say.

Been in a VA hospital lately, Kerry? Should they all go on a tour of VN?

Go F yourself, Kerry! I can't recall another veteran that wasn't trying to sell a book coming off with a BS PR tour like you are, probably on the tax payer's dime as usual. See you in 2020, or go back to making catsup and shut up.

Good to see cons show their true colors of being anti veterans.

Would you do a full court press return to a war zone where you can talk about someone you killed?

Simple question.

Which statement seemed like "self-aggrandizing?"

Grand Mal I like you, so let me try to clue you in......we have seen so many bad calls by people who we were told were tops in their field that experience no longer means what you thinks it means, and what you think it should mean.

You got out voted in America, and increasingly are getting out voted all around the GLOBE.

The Little People still have the vote.

And know how to use it.

Stop proving our founders right. They were skeptical that the "people" were smart enough to pick a good leader and this time they were correct. Sadly we have also forgotten what the electoral College was supposed to do....serve as a check against the election of a despot not help one into office against the majority of American voters.

I can't imagine why anyone that has killed another in combat would want to relive that moment in such a vivid way as revisiting the EXACT point on the ground. I can understand revisiting the overall battleground, like the beaches of Normandy, or the sands of the Middle East, a field in Africa, or the islands of the Pacific. But the EXACT location on the ground? I see mine in my mind almost every night in my dreams without having to be their in my body. I smell the smells, feel the wind, hear the sounds, and feel the report of the gun, without ever leaving my house. I have no interest in standing in my own footprints looking at the ground where they died at my hand.

Further more, I don't think that publically politicizing such an event should be supported or praised. If Secretary Kerry wanted to do this, he should have done it in private without publicizing it. In my humble opinion, it lessens the life lost by doing so.

But, maybe that's just me. For clarification, I'm not condemning Kerry, or his emotions that this obviously brought to the surface with him. In fact, he may even wish now that he had done this in private for the very reasons I mentioned above.

Maybe that's just his way of coping. IDK, different strokes. I, too, am not in position to judge him.

Did you skip right over Clinton with that one?

Ohyeah, him too. I guess Oxford doesn't count for student deferrment.
How did he avoid it again?

Does it matter how he avoided it?

The fact is that he didn't serve at all in the military.

You can call it a dodger, but Bush II did serve, Clinton didn't.

You demonstrate it.

Being against a veteran =/= being against all veterans. Seems like you engage in this same sort of fallacy regularly.

The elite have lost our trust, and we have guns, time for a new plan.

Again I tell you that you elected the elitist of the elites in Trump, your guns are useless against him or anyone in Govt. for that matter. The Govt. has more guns than you do.

Do they have agents who will fire upon their fellow citizens?

I disagree with John Kerry on many issues, but I greatly appreciate his courage. He fought in Vietnam and he spoke up against US atrocities at that time.

Actually I would think a lot of veterans would get tangled up in a flood of memories.

John Kerry was injured and suffered enormous stress and trauma. And yet he was not angry at people of Vietnam -- he made presentations against US tactics which caused massive civilian deaths.

Do you remember him throwing his medals over the White House fence like so much garbage, then testifying before congress that US troops routinely committed war crimes as a matter of common practice?

He sacrificed much of his health and risked his life in the war. But he spoke against US tactics which caused the deaths of about a million Vietnamese civilians.

Will they fire on terrorists you mean? Most certainly. Most of our terror has been homegrown.

There is a huge difference between homegrown terror, and a civil divide within our nation that happens to include unconstitutional violence by the fed's.

If the Fed's ever start hurting the people, the worm will turn within the military ranks, and our police forces.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
