He was in Vietnam to defend a 12-nation trade pact that the incoming US administration has said it will scrap - his last duty as Secretary of State.

This is the wrong place to do that, he is the wrong person, and it is impossible anyways because the American People are not interested in this deal that Obama cooked up as part of his "pivot to asia" because he has bad judgment.......that is to say that this was the perfect ending for Kerry's tour as SS.

I'm not going to criticize anyone's personal behavior in a war zone unless I was present at the time. The truth is that most of the time you have very limited knowledge of what's going on almost anywhere else in-country other than where you are. So many factors go into who did what, where and why that it's a leap to make wholesale judgement.

I don't know about your experience but I would estimate that in a war zone it takes about a minimum of 30 days before you re-socialize and acclimate yourself to the hostile environment in which you live. Your thinking must change or you aren't likely to handle it mentally and emotionally. It works in reverse when you return. Maybe it takes on average 60 days or more to feel reacclimated.

The John Kerry who was on a PBR in the Delta was not the same John Kerry 60+ days later after he rotated back to World. Neither were sailors who served with him.

Unless you served with Kerry your opinion is worthless and so is mine for that matter. That is precisely why I refuse to judge him.

I want to see his after action reports and the citations for his medals. One thing about VN is royalty like Kerry got medals handed to them as "perks". A bruise is not a purple heart for an anonymous grunt, but officers with political connections certainly had an advantage in the medals department if you cared about those things.

Is this kind of like those who believe Dubya did not fulfill the requirements of his military service contract? I know Dan Rather tried to find answers and was ultimately colluded. Still, it does not mean that Dubya did what he said he did.

After the lies that Kerry told in front of Congress I really can't have much sympathy for him. If he has demons then I am glad he can work them out. I don't have any opinion about that. I hope, for his sake, that this story is sincere. If it isn't then he created a real ghost that he will have to live with. I won't besmirch his service. It isn't my place to judge that. What he did after that is up for grabs.

If they shipped over at all. Most never made the trip as they didn't have to. I knew one very influential Congressman's nephew stateside. He was a damned nice guy. He skated and he was honest about it. He never shipped over.

Two things we do know about Kerry:

1. He didn't avoid Vietnam.

2. He didn't skate when he got there.
