Justice Dept. report finds 'pattern or practice' of excessive force by Chicago police | Fox News

DEVELOPING – Chicago police violated the Fourth Amendment through a "pattern or practice of use of excessive force," Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced Friday, revealing the results of a wide-ranging investigation that the city's former top cop called biased from the start.
The Justice Dept. launched its review of the 12,000-officer force -- one of the nation's largest -- in December 2015 after the release of dashcam video showing a white police officer shoot a black teenager, Laquan McDonald, 16 times as he walked away holding a small, folded knife. The video of the 2014 shooting, which the city fought to keep from being released, triggered widespread protests.
Among other findings, the report determined city police used excessive force and that "this pattern is largely attributable to systemic deficiencies within CPD and the City." It also cited insufficient training and a failure to hold bad officers accountable.
So we have a combination of black on black murder on a galactic scale, and we also have police brutality/overkill, going on in Chicago. Like I've said, it's a cesspool. The idea of fixing this problem is mind-boggling.

Why worry, Trump said he would fix it. So if it's not fixed, it will be Trump's fault right?

Really?

The only reason there is black on black violence in the inner cities is because police routinely abuse their authority in black neighborhoods. If the cops simply stopped harassing people in those areas the crime statistics would drop off the face of the earth.

With runaway crime on that level, the police brutality incidents can't be any more than few and far between. The two don't add up.

How do you mean?

Re: Justice Dept. report finds 'pattern or practice' of excessive force by Chicago po

Where are the actual statistics that this is a pattern, because everything i've research shows that blacks get shot by police about 3x more on average that white people... but they are 10x more likely to resist arrest(a study from San Francisco). They commit SIGNIFICANTLY more violent crime... like two-three standard deviations higher... And their culture is full of historic disdain of police...

Are you really surprised that they get shot 3x more? It would be a extremely unexpected anomaly if they didn't get shot by police more often. Let's say we looked at the statistics now and saw that the polices shootings scaled for population that every ethnic group got shot about the same... there would be something SERIOUSLY wrong, because statistically blacks SHOULD be getting shot more often.

From what I understand, it is actually more dangerous to resist arrest and be white, than to resist arrest and be black. The altercation is MORE likely to end in a fatality if a white person resists arrest. I make this logical leap by the simple fact that African Americans resist arrest 10X more often, but only get shot about 3X more often.

IMO, you can't have out-of-control police brutality and run-away crime, at the same time.

I say that, because it's going take some ass kicking to get things under control. Chicago's crime problem is because of under-policing, not over policing.

If this keeps up, Chicago won't be getting a Presidential Library.

And YET! Emanuel is starting a fund to help illegal criminal immigrants fight their deportation by ICE and has refused to cooperate with Fed law enforcement.

**** me!

Lequan McDonald, whose family was paid $5 million without needing to file a lawsuit, the young mentally handicapped man shot sixteen times by a Chicago cop, did not die in vain. Without the cameras that caught that execution, we'd have a lumpy rug and not much else. God bless him.

You have it ass backwards, the problem is that the cops have decided that as long as black and brown people both only kill each other and dont cooperate with the police then ****em, let em kill each other.

You obviously haven't been paying attention. Police harassment is a symptom of the systemic racism that rules the inner cities of our nation and is designed specifically to keep the people of color in these communities from having any opportunity for success. The violence you see is the result of this horrible iniquity. Therefore, if the cops simply leave the neighborhoods the racist system will collapse and the people in these neighborhoods will finally be free to succeed on their own.....as long as proper reparations are made.

That is victim culture fantasy....the problem is that police dont solve shootings, in part because the black and brown people will not give them information and in part because as long as it is not whites who are getting killed they really dont care very much.

Do you think a report like this would fuel BLM? And if so, was timing a part of this release?

Yes, and I don't know.

Maybe how they're kicking ass is the issue.

You're just really not understanding this at all.

If the cops simply pull out of these neighborhoods then there will no longer be the arrests for drugs, violence, theft, etc. If there are no arrests then, statistics will soon show that there is no crime and, miracle of miracles, the problem of violent neighborhoods disappears. The decrease in crime will then prove that it was, in fact, the police presence that caused the crimes in the first place.
