In business, there are two rules to follow:

1) The customer is always right.

2) If the customer is wrong, see rule number 1.

They can't just confiscate his property. They did the appropriate thing by refusing to allow someone exhibit that kind of behavior that could tarnish their brand. It does suck for the innocent involved but Dairy Queen's first priority is to protect its brand. Had they not shut it down it there would have been a tremendous backlash against them.

Exactly. The only option is to shut it down and start the process of stripping the franchise. They may even have to compensate the racist owner to do so.

You're missing my point, though you're very intelligent, you seem to want to impress everyone with your dialogue. Learn to get to the point quicker in laymen terms, then you will deservedly impress. Other words translate your meaning to a level that's more common and impactful.

The article I read indicated that it would be closed until a new owner was found.

And I disagree with the notion that the owner was reprimanded beyond what was necessary. The initial racist outburst was bad enough, but then the guy is stupid enough and racist enough to double down on it when interviewed by the cops, and getting his stupid racism in the official record of the incident. That is turbocharged idiocy right there, and racist AND stupid is a bad combo for a franchise owner. He really gave DQ no choice here, especially with his apparent history.

Finally, a guy who in 2017 doesn't recognize that as a business owner you can't call your customers 'niggers' and get away with it simply is not a good candidate for self reflection and change, and if change is going to come it will have to be on his dime and with his business reputation at risk, not a company with locations all over the country and for whom this incident is poison.

So in short, these people are out of a job until somebody decides to step in and maybe rehire them. Sounds promising. The cheering displayed by the OP in this thread is sort of the sickening problem with racism in the US. Instead of taking an attitude that supports people taking an active step to changing, everything must be a reprimand no matter the real implications of that reprimand.

My solution would have been to sever ties with the premise that the company would run the franchise until it could be sold. Instead, it was shut down. Now let's say this guy has 10 people working at his store. How many of them do you think are going to be thankful you got rid of their horribly racist boss but cost them their livelihoods?

DQ isn't going broke anytime soon, they should have taken over instead of closing it down.

Cheering the rapid response by Dairy Queen to nip this in the bud is appropriate, especially if someone owns stock in the corporation or has it in their mutual fund portfolio.

This would depend on the contract. I would presume DQ lawyers wrote the contract in a way that they could drop him should he do anything that could hurt the brand.

WOW!!! what is wrong with people? This nutball had a complete meltdown over his employees making a mistake so it caused him to lose his businesses. What a completely dummy and moron. Nutters and their meltdowns crack me up. Sad and funny at the same time. Good move DQ sweeping in and taking his franchise from him he is clearly unstable and incompetent. What ever ills he has I hope he gets them fixed, he needs serious help.

I'm saying ruining someone's life because he is a racist, or a perceived racist is only going cause more problems that it fixes.

This guy isn't saying, "I let my mouth overload my ass and I got fired". Instead he's saying, "I got fired on account that nigger".

He got ****canned because of racism instead of more appropriately, a failure in customer service and professionalism.

Corporations are not in the business of rehabilitation or providing social services. They are in it for profit. And, if DQ gets tagged racist, the fallout would be horrendous. They did the prudent thing: remove the problem.

They don't get it. Getting Donald Sterling out into the light was a good thing - but could you imagine if the NBA had turned around and said 'Sorry players, staff, coaches, guy cleans bathrooms, guy who serves soda, towel boy who just had twins! You're out of a job!' and then shut the team down until a new owner could be found? Everyone would be outraged because well - none of those people deserve to lose their jobs as a result of Sterling's actions.

Not one of the people here would think it a rational move. However, because it's in the middle of butt****ing nowhere I'm supposed to feel happy of what was a terrible decision from corporate? No. Absolutely not.

DQ doesn't own the actual property therefore they can not do what you are advocating.

The only way those people get to keep their jobs is if the racist guy pulls down the DQ stuff and change the menu to create his own brand and then keep his staff. This way he can say and do what he wants.

I own a very successful business. Not bragging just qualifying this next sentence. The customer is NOT always right. Sometimes the customer is a real &;;))$) and needs to be told.

Okay, that's fair, but even if the customer is entirely in the wrong, that doesn't mean you shout racial slurs at them.
