ExxonMobil did business with Iran, Syria and Sudan through a European subsidiary while President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of State was a top executive of the oil giant and those countries were under U.S. sanctions as state sponsors of terrorism, Securities and Exchange Commission filings show.

Doing business with nations blacklisted as sponsors of terrorism is reason enough to shoot down Tillerson's confirmation. Let me put this in the words of George Bush....

"You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists"

Seems that Tillerson is with the terrorists, but that's OK if you can make a buck from it. Right?

Perhaps this will provide a diplomatic breakthrough for a thawing of relations with Iran. If that happens then Im all for it. That would be good for peace.

This "connection" is contrived, at best, and it won't stop his confirmation.

But hey, if someone wants to make direct connections to Iran, Syria and Sudan one needs only to look at that lame duck who is about to be evicted from the White House. Thanks to him, Iran received over a billion dollars directly from the US...in cash. Infineum's dealings with Iran is small potatoes in comparison.

"ExxonMobil told USA TODAY the transactions were legal because Infineum, a joint venture with Shell Corporation, was based in Europe and the transactions did not involve any*U.S. employees."

Not sure there's any there there, but it will undoubtedly be enough for the knee-jerk leftists to pitch a fit.

The article states,
The filings, from 2006, show that the company had $53.2 million in sales to Iran, $600,000 in sales to Sudan and $1.1 million in sales to Syria during those three years.
I wonder what they were selling those countries?
Oil companies are one of the last companies I would say are as pure as the driven snow, but they are in business to make money,
and most corporate charters allow for doing business by any legal means possible.
If they exploited a legal loophole, time does not change it to an illegal loophole.

Because the knee jerk leftists are the only ones who are in favor of sanctions against sponsors of terrorism.

So now having someone with experience in dealing with Iranians is a bad thing...??? Was Iran a blacklisted nation when Tillerson was dealing with them???

That's nice, but since the company who did business with Iran isn't in the US, or manged by US executives, it may not be something that can be held against Tillerson.

Tillerson isn't a US executive? Why is Trump nominating a European to his cabinet?
