Trump drops inauguration announcer Charles Brotman who's done them all since Eisenhower - CNNPolitics.com

President-elect Donald Trump is breaking from 11 presidents' worth of tradition and benching Charles Brotman.The 89-year-old Brotman -- once the voice of the Washington Senators baseball team -- has announced every inauguration parade since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957.

"I looked at at my email, then I got the shock of my life," Brotman told CNN's Carol Costello. "I felt like Muhammad Ali had hit me in the stomach."

Brotman, who has been the announcer at presidential inauguration for sixty years, said when he read the email from the Trump transition team he thought he "was going to commit suicide."
He told WJLA he was "heartbroken" and "destroyed" by the decision at first.

Great. Here's a guy who just lost his wife a few weeks ago, and says preparing for this inauguration was all that was keeping him going, then he receives an email... a ****ing email... firing him after 60 years of service.

And why? So that one of Trump's loyal supporters could have the job. Welcome to the Make America Great Again world... if you're one of Trump's buddies. If you're not.. "You're Fired."

Has Trump ever done anything to lead you to believe he is an empathic person? I'm a little surprised his supporters aren't more upset, though. Aren't conservatives supposed to be big on tradition?

What does empathy have to do with it? If empathy were the standard, no one anywhere would ever be replaced. Its Trumps party, he can invite who he wants.

Not a trump fan by any means but this guy has to grow a pair. Nothing lasts forever mate just be happy you had the opportunity, plus he replaced someone at one point.

I mean when I left the British army it was pretty cold, by the book as I imagine it is for the US armed forces. You walk through the gate and that's that. What did they guy want a phone call from probably one of the busiest men in the world.

:roll: You know, some of us sitting here looking at this guy and see a guy that has this job for the entire lifetime of our parents life. I think that is more than enough for one person.

Sheesh, just because they didn't hold a party for you when you left the army doesn't mean the right way to fire a guy from something he's done for 60 years is a damn email. And the phone call doesn't have to be from Trump, for goodness sake. Someone takes 2 minutes out of their day, makes a phone call, says like a later (I guess) statement points out that they'll honor him at the inauguration as announcer emeritus, thank him for everything he's done over his long career. That's not hard, and it's called having just a bit of class and respect for others.
