That's true. My position on this is not hardened. In concept I do believe there are some people who do deserve the death sentence, in the name of 'justice,' to with finality remove them from society, and if the process could be improved, there is a decent chance I'd change my mind on the death penalty.

After all, earlier I said I likely wouldn't convict the father of one of the victims in the local case I cited if he killed a couple of the perps in court, so as a matter of principle I cannot very well oppose the state executing someone with the proper checks and balances. I've never quite understood people who would effectively wink at some of these scum getting raped/killed in prison but who are vehemently opposed to the DP.

Im really neither for nor against the death penalty as a cause. I dont have a personal opinion on it. I am for it when it comes to a societal/law and order situation but I would be just as comfortable with the mass buildup of supermax prisons placed in the middle of nowhere to house people like this for the rest of their lives. I just dont want them to have the opportunity to hurt anyone else ever again.

The forgiveness isnt extended to the perpetrators for their sake. Forgiveness is a purely selfish act designed to allow people to be free of consuming hatred. I dont know what I would do in that situation but we have seen what happens to families that heal through forgiveness vs those that remain stuck in their hatred.

I'm against the death penalty, but I would not be opposed to life behind bars in solitary, absolutely no human contact, and maybe slip them a dull knife with their breakfast after a few months and let nature take its course.

Receiving the death penalty protects the perps. They read or sleep 23 hrs/day and walk the dog walk for an hour a day alone. There is no fear, only boredom for 10-15 years. That's not punishment. They need to hang out with other cons that have 14 y/o daughters.
