Sears Agrees to Sell Craftsman to Stanley Black & Decker to Raise Cash

Sears lost out when they cut the Craftsman commercial line. The Craftsman line has been going downhill ever since. If a guy couldn't afford Snap On or Mac Tools they bought Craftsman. I don't buy Craftsman anymore. Stanley bought a lemon.

I see this as nothing but good news for the brand. Stanley B&D is a well-capitalized company that will invest in Craftsman and re-shore production.

I have been expecting this for several years. Sears has been on the ropes for years, and I believe all long-term hope has been lost, but to me this is the first nail in the coffin lid.

I get that they need cash, but if you sell everything that still has value, what will you be left with? Nothing that has value and stores that still nobody wants to shop at.

Don't know how Stanley is today but I worked for a company about 20 years ago that Stanley bought and Stanley was a complete PoS company. I wasn't there long because I saw the writing on the wall and got the hell out. People were being canned all over the place except for the little guys getting paid peanuts. The CEO of stanley was a young guy that made this speech about how stockholders are the #1 thing to him blah blah blah. Yes we know, but when a CEO pumps that speech, prepare for your company to get gutted. Basically, those kinds of CEO's drop in, gut the company so expenses drop fast, which looks good on paper so the stock skyrockets quickly and then they bail on the company because they were getting paid in stock options. Meanwhile the company is all but knee-capped for the next CEO. Kind of like how Republicans do with govenrment.

That could happen. I noticed Ace Hardware is carrying Craftsman. That was a surprise.

I was in a sears last night and pretty much everything was on super-sale. All of the soft lines were 65% or more off. Most of the hardlines were anywhere from $200 to $500 off, so when considering a $1300 washer on offer for $800, that's a pretty deep discount as well.

I don't think they are long for this world.
