Washington (CNN)House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that Republicans will move to strip all federal funding for Planned Parenthood as part of the process they are using early this year to dismantle Obamacare.

Ryan made the announcement during a news conference on Capitol Hill.

It's starting... The slip into the abyss of stupidity.

Oh wait, I'm sure the GOP has a grand plan on what to do with all the babies? I can hardly wait to hear it.

'Bout time.

sounds like a good idea, next we need to move any other entity which draws money from the federal government.

no one should be receiving any cash from the government unless it is because of goods or services rendered to the federal government

I hope they have plans to increase welfare.

The government has no business being in the medical business. It just is not an appropriate role for government. Obamacare and the VA should explain that to you well enough. That makes is appropriate, not stupid.

Funny, I wish they had plans to eliminate welfare.

But this is enough good news for one day, anyway.

Who pays for all the babies now that you righties are going to swell the numbers of folks on welfare?

This will never work for the same reason getting rid of Roe v. Wade never happened. "Christians" have as many abortions as everyone else in this country.

Your position is no one should recieve welfare?

If the government is to provide for our security and general welfare....then why isn't it appropriate they provide health care insurance? Doesn't the government have a vested interest in keeping the population healthy?

The only good I can see coming from this would be if the focus would somehow shift from the side effect(abortion) to the actual problem(unplanned pregnancy).

Unplanned pregnancy is something that could actually be prevented.

The GOP's solution to unplanned pregnancies is nonsense like 'abstinence only'.

Less abortions=more unwanted children, many of whom turn to criminality

Society is going to pay a lot more down-the-line because of GOP idiocy like this.

To me, abortion is... with the exception of a handful of whack jobs... just a "talking points" issue meant to get the base worked up and kept loyal. I do not believe there is any significant desire to actually eliminate it.

Republicans had a chance to overturn Roe v. Wade/defund PP with Bush. They didn't. They had a chance to do it for 6 years of Obama's after Obama became president. They didn't. Just like they didn't overturn ObamaCare.

This is a lot of **** talking for a party that has had MANY chances to overturn Roe v. Wade/defund PP and never did.

They'll pipe down when they see Christian women along with Atheist women, and Muslim women, and Jewish women demonstrating in front of Capitol. Then, they'll blame Democrats for their own cowardice.

Well then I'd say it's about time they upped their game. If people really want to end abortion, stopping unplanned pregnancy is the only option. And you are correct. "Abstinence only" is not even realistic in fantasy land.

Well after yesterdays massive scewup on ethics they needed to appeal to their base.

Why not let women decide whether they want to be pregnant or not and set a date on which they have to make up their minds?

PP should not be funded by the federal government if they are doing or responsible for abortions. All they have to do is quit sponsoring abortions and they get their federal funding back. Do they really want to do all of that other great work they do, or are abortions more important to them than women's health?

We all need food and water to stay healthy, too. Should they pay for that as well? Clothing to keep us warm? How about toothpaste so we don't get gum disease and infections. Soap so we don't spread germs. Hell, why not have them pay for everything. We can all be wards of the state.

Abstinence only is dumb. It's also impossible to police. But I would like to see women take a little more responsibility. I spent a few years before I was married making sure I didn't end up pregnant every time i had sex. It's actually not that hard to do.

Food and water are probably the most subsidized products in the US. Seriously? Corn farming? Water utilities? If you're homeless, there are literally hundreds of government funded clinics you can go and pick up a cheap bar of soap and even condoms if you need them. That people don't use it is another story.

The things you mentioned are already subsidized in large quantities through government programs. Healthcare should have come before any of them, however we're a silly country.

Farm subsidies cost $20 Billion a year. Are we going to get rid of them?
