Gun attack kills at least 35 at Istanbul nightclub

ISTANBUL/ANKARA — A gunman shot his way into an Istanbul nightclub packed with New Year's revellers early on Sunday, killing at least 35 people and wounding more than 40 in what the provincial governor described as a terrorist attack.
The assailant shot a police officer and a civilian as he entered the Reina nightclub before opening fire at random inside. The club lies on the shore of the Bosphorus Strait in the Ortakoy district of Turkey's most populous city.

"A terrorist with a long-range weapon ... brutally and savagely carried out this incident by firing bullets on innocent people who were there solely to celebrate the New Year and have fun," Sahin told reporters at the scene.

Around 500-600 people were thought to have been in the club when the attack happened at around 1:15 a.m. (2230 GMT), broadcaster CNN Turk said. Some jumped into the waters of the Bosphorus to save themselves and were being rescued by police.

There's no end in sight for this madness.

Are we all thinking the same thing ? Radical Christian bent on destruction of all who aren't Christian?

All I'm thinking about now is all the lives ruined and all the broken hearts.

I wonder if they caught any of the perpetrators? if you ever saw "Midnight Express" I suspect things won't be very nice for anyone linked to the attack.

No reports yet on this or who they are. Well, they're evil and sick, and most of us don't need to be told this, sigh.

I really don't lose much sleep if the Turks use whatever means they have to get information as to who plotted such a cowardly attack. hopefully the perpetrators will be caught and disposed with before they can harm other innocents.

I'm thinking about prevention; prevention in the form of killing all those savages.

well you have to heed "Dirty Harry Callahan's admonition"

there's nothing wrong with shooting people as long as the RIGHT people get shot

when you have heinous massacres, the zeal for revenge often clouds rational thought and meticulous collection of evidence. Hopefully that will take place before paybacks are applied

Well, it's war. Unfortunately, there will be collateral damage. As long as we play by the rules and the bad guys throw the rulebook out the window, these attacks will never end. You must ask yourself how many you are willing to absorb.

Likely those who don't really give a toss about exploiting victims to push their idiotic agendas are. Reasonable people will have compassion for all of those affected by this heinous attack. People have lost their loved ones and family members, no happy new year for them.

I'm not buying your fake "compassion". Go virtue signal somewhere else.

Killing innocents tends to increase the terrorism though. its a tough call

if you actually follow Serenity's posts over the last several years, she's been very consistent this way so I tend to believe her

Nothing fake about me mate, what you see is what you get. Sorry it upsets you that I'm not a fan of exploiting victims to push some idiotic agenda.

Those who lack compassion could at least fake being decent until all the bodies are recovered. So unseemly.

It is indeed a tough call, but there are frankly only two options in this situation: 1) How many theirs are you willing to kill and 2) How many of ours are you willing to lose.

This thread isn't about the war on terror; it's about a dreadful attack on an Istanbul nightclub that has killed at least 35 people and injured untold others. And as TD has already observed, this is a matter for the Turks to handle.

It's about a terrorist attack. Discussing preventative measures is appropriate.

Ya see, it's like this: there sheep, wolves and sheep dogs in this world. Your first instinct in this case is to feel compassion and sorrow for the victims. Me, I'm a sheep dog and when the wolves attack my first instinct is to kill thr wolves. I rate very high in protective instincts. So, killing terrorists (the wolves) is on time and on target.

Its not for just the turks to handle. The war on terror is global and Turkey is in NATO.

Amen.

I sure hope Medusa and or her family weren't caught up in this
