(CNN)British pop star George Michael has died, according to Britain's Press Association (PA) news agency. The musician, who shot to fame with the 1980s duo Wham!, was 53 years old.
Michael later went on to have a successful solo career.

PA quoted a statement from Michael's publicist that said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period."

Man, that is a surprise, a man with a smooth voice and some great songs (I must admit before I fell into the "hard rock/metal" scene ;)) but the songs I loved are still great songs, a song like Careless Whisper and maybe one of the biggest Christmas songs ever

And it is really bizarre that he dies on the first day of Christmas.

Goodbye George Michael, another music super star dies in 2016.

I listened to his stuff all the time in the 80's. I think "Monkey" and "Faith" were my favorites. I definitely wore those cassette tapes out.

we have been discussing this in another thread and my response is

wtf does "peacefully at home" mean

guy is dead at 53 anti up

probably too much drug and alcohol abuse. worn out heart.

Suffered from depression, I imagine he killed himself.

James gandolfini died around age 50 and no one batted an eyelash.

because they were forthcoming:

James Gandolfini, the three-time Emmy-winning actor who played mob boss Tony Soprano on HBO’s hit series The Sopranos, died on Wednesday in Italy at age 51.

The actor suffered a possible heart attack while traveling in Rome, a rep for HBO says. Gandolfini had been scheduled to take part in the Taormina Film Fest in Sicily.

this: died peacefully at home...fine if he was 80 but not 53

even dying of natural causes in your 60's seems harsh these days.

I read that he was suffering from pneumonia and was having trouble breathing.

Seems like there might be something on top of that to make him incapable of getting over pneumonia.

even dying of natural causes in your 60's seems harsh these days.

that is most certainly true

my grandmother seems old at 60 my mum was still vital and thriving at 80

the golden generation....they had the war yes but their food was real and they walked everywhere, drank and smoked and embraced life without fear

Whenever I see celebrity surprise Holiday deaths, particularly those not exceedingly sick or elderly, my first thoughts usually run to the possibility of substance involvement or suicide (or often enough - both). I don't jump to conclusions, but I accept the reasonable possibility.

One of Howard Stern's 53 y.o. on air personalities also was found dead "in his chair at home", this Christmas Eve as well.

could be due to AIDS as well. One of his lovers died of an AIDS related -a Brazilian fashion designed-died of an AIDS related brain hemorrhage

Did he have HIV?

Did he have HIV?

its unknown but when someone dies of "pneumonia" at 53 and has had a history of having sex with multiple partners including someone who did die of AIDS, the probabilities are rather high

Did he have HIV?

As of 2007 he refused to get tested however chances are it is high.
It seems there are several issues he had going on other than that as well.
