In a reversal of his earlier tweet on Saturday:

“China steals United States Navy research drone in international waters - rips it out of water and takes it to China in unpresidented act.”

The situation was resolved. There was no reason for Trump to be involved any further.

One can only imagine how these kinds of incidents will play out once he's sworn in.

I feel extremely safe knowing that no matter the time of day, Trumps tweeting capacity is at hair trigger alert levels, to tweet maximum, weapons grade, tweetonium bombs at Americas enemies.

My feelings exactly. It's a delicate situation to begin with. His twittering in public was completely unnecessary. But he doesn't seem to have any filters between his brain and his fingers/mouth. He hasn't "gotten it" yet. He's no longer a "reality" TV star trying to ramp up the tension. There is enough tension in the world without his carnival barking.

I think it would be beneficial at this point if Obama would sign an executive order barring Trump from all forms of social media.
 
It seems like they want Obama or Trump to do an ass kiss to get it back. If the issue is alive when Trump takes office he should refuse it on security grounds, implying that their possession of it makes it tainted.

This is just the first serious shot across our bow by China. It's much bigger symbolically than it seems. World press: Presedent Trump: "They stole it. Keep it."

Still though, it shows Republicans are willing to give up certain things, like the "Party of National Security" they said they were.

OMG....

It was a drone, and we have lost many of them over the years.

There is nothing about this particular this drone technology that the Chinese, Russians, UK, and other NATO countries don't already have.

The seized underwater drone was part of an unclassified programme to collect oceanographic data, including salinity, temperature and clarity of the water. The data can help inform US military sonar data, since sound is affected by such factors.

I dunno if that's such a good idea, it would cause a cataclysmic system shock to his brain, as all his stupidity, bouncing around inside his brain, unable to be expressed to his millions of devotees instantly, causes him to go into beserker mode and start launching nukes at Hollywood and CNN.

That is stupid, I mean very ****ing stupid reasoning. WHat it does is tell China its ok for them to cross a line that should not be crossed. Next thing you know China is steaming up to other vessels and doing as they please. China probably got excited by Trumps overly naive tweet because what he did is called cowering. Trump may think he is sending some kind of strong message but really what his tweet says is weakness.

Why give them what they want? They don't care about the drone. Forget about the drone.
Why is this important?

The drone is a Chinese metaphor, and means more about bragging rights - or "counting coup" as we sometimes say. The open seas piracy is exactly what is looks like - the "shoplifting" in plain sight of a low dollar item from a US vessel. It could have been an anchor for that matter. Not big enough to make a big deal out of, but too big to be ignored.

The #1 issue that Trump represents to China is their trade balance with the USA. They are way over exported. They know they are vulnerable, and they know why. Trump plans to do what it takes to bring that account back into balance, and that means China's exports to the USA are going to take a haircut, and it also implies that we will be competing with them in the world market.

The #2 issue is the South China Sea and China's neighbors they are big footing.

It's all about China and it's propaganda machine back home.

I almost can't decide which is better. That Trump have his twitter taken away so as to stop embarrassing us in the world's eyes, or that he keep his twitter and continue to remind American voters that he has no business being in the Oval Office.

Our nation has effectively been taken hostage by a toddler for the next four years, has already started a fight with a foreign power that was chilly but ultimately restrained, and he hasn't even been sworn in.

The view from China is that Trump and the Republicans and the Democrats have put China on notice that the USA is going be working diligently at sucking China's export balance dry. That is their #1 problem right now. Talk about factories closing...

Just for grins, give me the strategic positives of getting the drone back, or the negatives of letting them keep it.

1. Do we choose between new extreme conflicts with the rest of the world or constant reminders to the American voter that he is the worst possible human being to be in the White House?
