Pastor to kids: Santa is a man in a suit

If your child's joy is based on a lie, kinda seems like that makes you a ****ty parent

Preach it brother. Like they tell you that they love you and they always will and then one day you come home from school after getting beat up in the field and got mud all over you and you walk in and your parents are screaming at each other and you mother keeps shouting about some blonde who works with daddy who I guess was praying because she was said to be on her knees and now they are getting a divorce and you have live in a smelly shotgun shack sleeping in a room with two brothers and a baby sister who cries all night because she is always sick and your younger brother wets the bed and its going to stink to high heaven and make you sick and then the whole room will be sick and your daddy who says he has you on weekends is too busy praying with the blond church lady and rarely comes to get you so you have to get up at 5 AM to do a paper route to 128 houses to raise extra money to buy groceries and then you are late to school and get punished for that by losing your recess and you do that too many times and get held back and the other kids call you BIG DUMMY and you develop a stutter and then they make fun of that so you lash out and throw some stones through an old abandoned warehouse only to be caught by some cops eating doughnuts in an old delivery bay and they beat the crap out of you to teach you a lesson and knock out two teeth which makes your speech problems only worse and then daddy shows up and says you have a new mommy and you it her and she keep calling you darling and you hate it and .....

oh wait .... got carried away with the joy being named on a lie.

Never mind.

Yeah a guy going into a mall and yelling that is a jerk but I think a child would do much better to know that they got presents because thier parents love them than because of some magic guy who can deliver presents to every home in the world but can't mange to go on a diet.

Bet you're ok talking about a fairy tale about a guy rising from the dead and turning water into wine huh?

Knowing you have an imaginary friend is different than your parents who you trust implicitly telling you an outright lie

My 8 year old daughter found out the truth this year and she was seriously more disappointed about the fact that we lied to her. We have always made a big deal about teaching her to tell the truth though.

When my daughter realized that there is no physically real Santa she felt bad for a bit as well until we talked to her. I told my daughter that Santa does exist, in all of us, and the joy that we bring to children with that is not a lie and one day she will get the chance to bring the same kind of joy to her kids. She was quite happy after that. It's all about perspective and this pastor is a class 1 A-Hole. But it's ok for him to preach his version of a fairy tale to kids.

The guys an absolute dick. Plain and simple. I thought that when I saw the video posted the other day online.

If you don't want to lie to kids, fine. I can respect and understand that. If a kid comes up to you and asks you about Santa, you have no obligation to lie if you don't feel comfortable about that. I have no issue there. Hell, I wouldn't even care if he wants to preach that from the pulpit of his church; his congregation should understand what they're going into.

But to go into a public place and interject yourself into the situation to declare that kids parents are liars and to shout stuff like this is, without question, dickish. It's a complete asshole move. There's no real way to describe it other than that. There was no impact to his integrity in this case where he was forced with some moral quandary to lie to kids or not; HE choose to interject himself into that situation. I'd have felt zero sorrow for him if one of those parents gave him one square in the jaw there.

I'm sure the asshole probably thinks he's justified, and he probably thinks he's justified because "He's right". If a Muslim came up there shouting the same kind of thing, but rather just proclaiming the whole holiday as egregious as it celebrates a false god instead of glorifying Muhammad, this jackass would probably have a conniption fit. If some atheist walked into his church shouting how God isn't real and this is all a big lie, he'd have a conniption fit. It'd be the same kind of tactless, assholish move he's doing, but since he thinks he's "right" and others are "wrong", that somehow justifies it. Its the type of pathetic and disgusting rationalization that is far to often used as a means of being an asshole.

Pastor to kids: Santa is a man in a suit - CNN Video

I'm posting this, because I have no idea how to feel about it. On one hand, a pastor is taking a stand about imaginary religious figures. And that amuses me, on the other, screaming at children waiting in line to see santa, that he's not real, really angers me as a parent. And on the third hand, I am really thankful it is not an atheist doing it.

How do you guys feel about this whacko?

The only proper thing to do would be to go to his church and start shouting that God is not real.

He is an asshole.

Completely agree. Also, nice use of the term conniption fit. Haven't heard that one in a while.

This pastor is a misguided. Santa isn't an imaginary religious figure, no one prays to Santa or looks to his writings for guidance. He's just a jolly icon that kids can easily relate to who inspires people to give to one another on Christmas. Would Jesus disapprove of this?

Another conflict with myself I am having. These malls will likely ban him, much like a bakery refusing service to a gay man. His religious views and their civil rights are both protected. I don't think bakerys should deny gay people, but I think malls should ban this guy. And I am an atheist, who thinks lying to children about mythical figures is child abuse. But as a parent, the worst thing to me is destroying a childs joy.

Got some internal conflict going on. That's for damn sure.

There is a difference between a guy going to a mall and harrasing shoppers with his political/religious views and a shop refusing to serve a person based on religious/political views.
The pastor would not be denied access to the mall based on his views/opinions but his actions of harrasing other mall goers.

I'm a Christian and think this jack ass was completely out of line

We taught our Children the religious significance of Christmas but also allowed them to believe in Santa.

They're only that age once and to have some ass clown zealot try and ruin it for them pisses me off to no end

Looks like somebody is jealous of Santa.

Couldn't agree more. Very well said!

This man stormed up to the mall santa line with express purpose.
