Dylann Roof laughed during church slaying confession to FBI

It's people like Roof that allow me to continue believing in the DP.

I know he still needs to go through the trial and all, but really, why keep this guy in jail for 30 years until a death sentence is carried out. Why put him in jail until he dies of natural causes... THAT is cruel and inhuman to the victims and those who still live with the pain of this asshole killing their loved ones.

Because if we could guarantee that only the most egregiously evil and demonstrably guilty would be executed there would be a much diminished debate about the death penalty. It's easy to pluck individual atrocities, it's much harder (IMO), to justify the system as a whole.

Otherwise I sympathize with your reaction.

yeah I think in some Arab nations, if you are convicted of murder, the father of the victim or the brother or the male head of the family is given a rifle and he has the choice to shoot the murderer. If he does not, the defendant goes to prison. in some of those nations, if you really want the defendant to suffer, you hand the rifle back to the judge.

Happened recently in Saudi Arabia to a prince:

Saudi prince executed for murdering man in brawl - BBC News

Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir was put to death in the capital. No details were given as to how he was executed - most condemned people are beheaded.
The prince is the 134th person to be put to death this year, according to a tally compiled by the AFP news agency.
But it is rare for members of the royal family, who are estimated to number several thousand, to be executed.

The crime was heinous...but how does it directly impact you or cause you pain where you have the need to forgive him?
I've already said it didn't directly affect me and I don't have a need to forgive him.

My point is...I dont understand the need to join the pain body. Unless you know those folks this isnt personal to you and if you are going to make this personal...my gosh...there are SO MANY horrible and despicable crimes against humanity that happen every single day...hell...every hour of every day.
Why does something have to personally affect me in order to have strong feelings about it?
