The CIA has concluded in a secret assessment that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win the presidency, rather than just to undermine confidence in the U.S. electoral system, according to officials briefed on the matter.

Intelligence agencies have identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided WikiLeaks with thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others, including Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, according to U.S. officials. Those officials described the individuals as actors known to the intelligence community and part of a wider Russian operation to boost Trump and hurt Clinton’s chances.

The CIA presentation to senators about Russia’s intentions fell short of a formal U.S. assessment produced by all 17 intelligence agencies. A senior U.S. official said there were minor disagreements among intelligence officials about the agency’s assessment, in part because some questions remain unanswered.

Charlie Rose was talking about this tonight on PBS as well. It's sort of got me saying 'no wonder Hillary baked away from this as fast as she did'.

The next few weeks should be very interesting.

Trump's unhinged response to the CIA is, however, another reminder that he's dangerously over-sensitive and reckless. Scary times.

Course the other option is that Trump is rattling cages, softening up the opposition (LEFT) so that he gets more at the negotiating table....cause that would be so like Trump wouldn't it....

Dont ever get into some of these games with Trump unless you(F) play them very well.

That's my advise.

There was another thread on this right above yours. The article you presented is more complete however.

If hillary was as pure as the wind driven snow as you on the left pretend she is, why would her hacked emails be a problem? She is a nothing but a turd as her and her people's emails showed. Their own words, from her and her people. If?? And it's a if at this time how did the emails get hacked? Did the hack come off here "secure" home server? If so who is responsible for that? If not there where, last time I checked Obama is still running the country and in charge of the country including security, why don't you on the left demand of him how this breach of security happened. It's wasn't the hack that sank the Hilda beast, it was her own emails..... disregard the reply, I meant this as a general post, not reply to the above post... cheers

There's been a lot of talk about it, but this is the first report that I've seen where intelligence says that Russia did it to effect the election for Trump.

Hillary's awfully quiet about all of this, and she backed away so fast, like she saw a snake.

You probably have a good point. I think she wishes this would just go away. Obama launches an investigation that can't end before he leaves office leaving it up to the next Congress or administration to finish up. That wouldn't turn out good for her. There is the Wikileaks hack that involves a lot of ammo to justify a subpoena for the campaign and foundation servers. They could say they need the servers to do a complete study for security breaches to see who hacked the servers. There are several other issues that were exposed because of Wikileaks that relate to the use of funding for the foundation. The last thing she needs is Sessions digging around in her dirty laundry.

So long as Clinton Corp does the smart thing and pledges to go away no one will be digging into the Clinton sooty baggage going forwards.

Naahh, I don't think they're going to do anything with Hillary, she's a wash. John Mccain told Charlie Rose this evening that the reason Obama has ordered this is to get the ball rolling to to box in Trump legally when he starts in Jan.

This is he weirdest damned thing I've seen this country involved in in my memory. I think that - wikileaks has actually done US all a service and now we're forced to deal with it. How the US deals with Russia on this will be what sets the tone as we go on.

I don't put any stock in what McCain says. The problem with McCain's theory is that Sessions would be the final arbiter of the investigation. I still don't see why they are so fixed on the Russians. We need to investigate to see who it was that actually hacked those servers but they were so easy to hack that it could have been anyone. It doesn't make sense that the Russians would expose that they had hacked the DCCC, DNC and Clinton Foundation servers. They could have bled those servers for intel for years. Why would they give that up? It doesn't add up. Cyberzeist (an independent hacker) hacked the Clinton Foundation and the DCCC server in October, after the initial hacks. They still didn't have their security fixed.

If you want to see some scary stuff look at the stuff this guy is doing. Google him.

I read Trump's reps dismiss this as "from the same team that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction" but if it turns out to be true - how do ordinary Americans feel about this?

Mr Trump's team dismissed the CIA line, saying: "These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction."
Russian officials have repeatedly denied the hacking accusations.

Lame Duck Obama knows he has no legacy to leave, so he's going to poison the well and salt the fields for the next guy.

Prop or not?

Sounds like prop to me, considering the sources. CIA and mainstream media, a likely pair. Deception and distraction, they have it down to an art form.

Ironically enough, seeing as Iraq did have weapons of mass destruction, aren't they basically saying "yes, these guys are totally right"?

This is about Trump getting a helping hand from Putin, not Hillary.

If that's what this is about, this thread belongs in the CT section, as even the CIA has said there's no evidence the Russians had any influence in the actual election. If not the election, what was the helping hand the Russian's gave Trump exactly?

The way I see this is that the CIA has expended great effort to control the Fake News Mainstream Media and especiallly by demonizing Russia and re-invigorating the Cold War to finance their nefarious agendas. Trump is pragmatic about Russia and doesn't buy the CIA's blatant nonsense and will likely end this Cold War and the demonizing of Putin and Russia, to the benefit of us all. It is the aggressive USA that is exporting wars around the globe. Well, only where OIL or fat resources are up for grabs. Does that sound like the World's policeman or Intelligence Agency skulldugger? If the Russians did what they could to get good press for Trump and bad press for Hillary, it is simply fair play. The USA has Atlanticists in the Russian political sphere to do the same thing in Russia and all I hear is "the pot calling the kettle black."

When I see things like this I have to call bull****.

If it is a secret assessment, we wouldn't know about it, so who made up this story.

That's the pro democrat lib media calling card: "Have lie, will travel"

The Russian mob didn't want the competition from the Clinton Foundation.

And I guess this is how the media fights back at "false news" by publishing more false news? As central as the USA is to the world's functioning, every country has a dog in the fight.

Looks like a leak form a political motivated source from the outgoing administration but it's secret so don't tell anyone.
