I agree! His wife Annie is alive and well at age 96, and I'm certain she would appreciate that honor for him!

One of the original “Magnificent Seven” astronauts in NASA’s Mercury program, John Glenn captured the nation’s attention in 1962 when he first circumnavigated the globe. He went on to serve four terms as a U.S. senator from Ohio, and he took a final flight of glory at age 77, rocketing back into space as a crew member aboard the shuttle Discovery.​

He should be eligible for a state funeral, but it's his choice, not ours. If he approved it before he passed, he could get the full state parade down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capital Building, with his casket on the caisson, followed by a riderless horse with empty boots reversed in the stirrups, and then with Congress' approval, lie in-state under the dome in the rotunda on Capital Hill and then carried to Arlington for his final repose.

From what I know of him, I don't know if he would have approved that, but you never know. I hope, for the nation's sake, that he did.

The man who forbade the Vice President from visiting his wife at home may not have wanted a state funeral either. We shall see. He was a great American. So far as I'm aware his only detractors were some of the other astronauts, who thought he was an uptight goody-two-shoes.

I remember watching his space flight as a kid. My parents let me stay up late. He is an icon.
 
I didn't have much use for his politics as one of my senators and he was able to veer pretty far left in many issues because the average voter figured a war hero and space hero couldn't be a real lefty and that was his schtick in running for office. Party hardcore knew he was almost as much a true believer as his other Ohio senator for much of his career-the man he beat in the 74 Primary-Howard Metzenbaum. The average voter figured him for a centrist because of his credentials. That being said, he was a great man who served his country many years honorably and was a war hero. He was a credit to Ohio and his country

A fan of space travel/exploration I also remember his flights. I know little of his politics but didn’t (and still don’t) care. John was the kind of guy that America needs more of and he will be missed. RIP and good travels Mr. Glen.

John Glenn is a hero in Ohio for his military service, and his time spent at NASA. His political career is not prominent factor among Ohioans.

RIP. Its sad when our only generation of explorers has gotten this old and no new generation to take over. We need to bring back manned missions to other stellar bodies once again- it makes all the difference.

Then it's a good thing I'm not from Ohio. While I appreciate Glenn's military service and contributions to space exploration, I would feel sadder in his passing if he hadn't voted for the Brady Handgun Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban.
 
He was a great man.

It's weird watching the entire generation pass away.

Glen was married for 73 yeas. My best to his family.
