Poll: Majority of voters want Donald Trump to ditch his Twitter account - CBS News

President-elect Donald Trump has continued his Twitter antics after Election Day -- but most voters think he should shut his account down as president, according to a new poll.

The survey, from Quinnipiac, found that 59 percent of U.S. voters say Trump should shut down his personal Twitter account. Just 35 percent said he should keep the account open.

Despite their concerns over his social media use, 59 percent of Americans say they are “optimistic” about the next four years with Mr. Trump as president, compared with 37 percent who are not.

Mr. Trump’s Twitter account has made news throughout his campaign, most notably with his early-morning tweet-storms complaining about coverage or attacking his opponents.

My question is: If Trump abandons his personal Twitter account and uses the POTUS Twitter account do you think his style will change?

On one hand, I'm not a fan of it. It seems below the position.

On the other hand, I love how he can circumvent the news media altogether and virtually dictate their coverage any time he wants to.

This allows him filter-less access to deliver his message, without the media having time to manipulate and calculate a strategy on how to deliver it to us.

The media basically operates with their pants around their ankles with Trump. That is wonderfully hilarious.

And what an erudite message that has been.

I wouldn't mind seeing his Twitter account go away and he would use the more measured POTUS version for official use only. Twitter is a sewer of trolls and haters.... I never touch the stuff. But then again, I have to call into question this poll. When it says 59% want him to shut it down, is it REALLY 59% or is it more like 39%. Pollsters have such ****ty credibility these days....

I have mixed feelings on it. I mean, haven't we all wanted more transparency from the government? Be careful what you wish for. :)

Nope I want him to keep it and keep showing the world what a man-child he is. Plus it is hilarious watching him throw fits about SNL like a *****.

Even more hilarious to watch the even bigger ******s of the media cry about him not going through them.

I love the way he gets to tweak all the libs.....Out comes the name calling, and calls for someone to take his blackberry away, and the media hates it, so it must be good....

I would like to see Trump use the official POTUS Twitter account for official business. Then use the Donald Trump account when he wants to express his opinion in a none official capacity.

He's our man-child though, his Twitter rants reflect on us all, he's out President (well President -elect).

At this point, i doubt it.

I thought he would start acting presidential. He kinda let me down there. And he's letting his supporters down by preemptively abandoning his campaign promises.

Twitter is a great venue for this disappointment. It's brief enough that it's not an insurmountable attentive burden like being aware of facts clearly is.

Yes, and the era of the demure America, apologizing for our own existence is over.....lol....

What I want to understand is how a guy who does not even have a computer on his desk (for reasons I would like to know) became a master at Twitter.

Trump is not going to stop using one of the best tools in his tool box no matter what anyone else has to say about it.

My advise is to get over it.

Are we really going to rely on anything liberal pollsters have to say, after getting so much wrong recently, I think on purpose....

lol, it's just been kicked into Ludicrous Speed.

Because right-wingers have never EVER done any name calling...

What do you mean, "a master at twitter?" You mean, like, how did he become so adept at installing the app and tweeting?

Plus at this point after all the times we have been told by the members of the elite that Trump is wrong, Trump is a buffoon, Trump is finished only to watch Trump win....and win in stunning fashion.... any claims that Trump is wrong before the proof is in has to be taken with a huge dose of skepticism.

Well, I still can't get the hang of it.....lol....

Not saying that....Just point out a fact.

The fact that you always are looking left with a scowl and to the right with awe?
