CNN Politics said:
(CNN)In a rare bipartisan vote the House of Representatives approved legislation boosting federal research efforts to combat cancer and other diseases, including $1.8 billion in funding for Vice President Joe Biden's "cancer moonshot" initiative.

The "21st Century Cures Act" passed 392-26.
"It's personal -- people have family members with Alzheimer's, people have family members who died of breast cancer. They see children with these awful diseases. This is the answer," Michigan GOP Rep. Fred Upton, the author of the bill, told reporters on Wednesday.

Colorado Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette, who partnered with Upton, stressed the overwhelming margin of the vote.

"We have strong majorities from Democrats and Republicans in the House," she said, noting that although a couple of senators raised concerns with a few provisions she expected it to pass early next week when it comes up for a vote in the upper chamber.

Worth repeating: The "21st Century Cures Act" passed 392-26.

Yes there are things that we can all agree upon, even in Washington. I would venture to say all of us, at some point, has had a family member, friend, co-worker who has died from cancer and would like nothing better than to see Joe Bidens goal of eradicating cancer to come true.

Contrary to popular belief, things actually get done in congress, but it's mostly housekeeping and brainless measures. Work on a cancer cure, sure. I'd like to see the pork in the bill, though.

Me too, bipartisanship doesn't come for free in almost all cases. Neither does congress caring about curing cancer unless there is some pork in it for them.

Bill Clinton wanted a line item veto to cut pork, but SCOTUS over ruled him. So pork won.

I like the "idea" of a line item veto, but in the way it would have been used I'm glad the SCOTUS ruled as they did. It would have been abused. For instance if the GOP compromised on a bill to get it to pass, the Dem president could just veto the GOP stuff and let the Dem part of the bill passed (pork or not). And that situation could be vice-versa as well with a GOP president. Pork would have won either way. The real question I have is if the GOP in control will enact earmarks again which will be nothing but pork.

Meh. The government shouldn't be funding medical research.

If only they could pass bipartisan bills related to an appropriate goal for government. Donating to charities isn't one of them.

Here you go. However, I recommend you are somewhere you like to sleep as it's not particularly riveting.
