Dem Tim Kaine wants WAR

my guess is that the US would be more hesitant to enter new wars if that was the current custom.

Doubtful. Back when it was custom war was terribly common.

Furthermore, have you ever actually listened to people that go to war? Generals are the biggest war supporters out there.

then what's the problem with our current nobility leading the troops into battle? if you're correct, then they should have no problem with it.

Who do you define as our current nobility? Is it economic based, political power based, elected officials? State and local leaders or just national?

Absolutely pointless emotional gesture.

You can't officially declare war against a non-state entity.

We are already fighting them all over the world, the fight gets Congressional spending.

So what's the point? To get the MAGA fools all excited?

I generally think Kaine is a loone and his antics during this election only reinforce that view, but even s blind squirrel finds a nut. On this issue I find myself agreeing with Kaine.

Should congress officially declare war? Will democrats who face a tough road on 2018 rally behind Kaine and take an official stand on a potentially unfavorable action, or continue to be spineless and offer Trump the same blank check given to Obama and Bush. How will republicans act? Do you think Kaine would be as vocal on this if Hillary had won?

He is history, but not to worry, there will be wars aplenty in the foreseeable future.

i'd argue that America's nobility includes those with enough wealth to significantly influence public policy and those with the elected power to deliver it. same as it ever was.

is Kaine also for wartime tax rates?

also, will our noblemen be leading the troops into battle? i'd like to see that custom return.

You want to see a return to noblemen?

The point is
He is either a man of principal.

Or

Seeing his defeat on a national stage he is focusing on issues that play well in the military rich state of Va hoping to sucker in some voters and get another term.

It sounds like a real good plan but they might just vote to go to war. Don't underestimate stupid when it comes to the Senate.

I don't see it as a vote to go to war but as a reaffirmation of the 2001 vote.

The GOP wanted to lead--time to lead--this transition period is quite active so far.

Giving any President carte blanche to wage war, especially trump, is stupid. McConnell is not stupid. That's why he's the Majority Leader, with his wife on the trump team.

The McConnell/trump dynamic should be fascinating to watch, given how little Mitch would say about trump during the election.

I'm quite sure he's aiming for 60+ Senators after the 2018s.

Obviously, anything coming out of DC over the next four years will have the 2020 Census election in mind .

Interesting question. I don't know how Congress would declare war on an organization rather than a nation. It can be done, I have no doubt. I'm not certain what Kaine wants. I'd like to know more.

All that aside I very much support following the Constitution which gives Congress the responsibility of declaring war - not the President. At least it seems Kaine is trying to do it the right way. That's important.

Yeah, I think Kaine and Hillary would have jumped on the war wagon rather quickly. Hillary was/is big on supporting war.

We'd have to do it just the way LBJ did for Vietnam. The president asks, and congress authorizes it. Although politics must play no part of it once we get going.

"Kaine pressures Senate colleagues, Trump for authorized war against Islamic State"

vs

"Dem Tim Kaine wants WAR"

My highly trained detective skills tell me that there may be a subtle, nuanced difference between the thread title and the headline.

Yes, but who killed J.R.?

We would. I'd hate to see that happen yet again.

To my thinking we need Congress to make the declaration of any war in which we will be involved. Congress should debate it. Citizens should have the opportunity to be informed via the debate. Citizens should then understand the degree of sacrifice that may be involved. Congress then should have a roll call vote. The founders were wise as doing so requires accountability.

I couldn't agree more. I think that the trouble for US is that we're tired of war: this is sort of turning into that Orwell 1984 thing...

Since most terrorists are Wahabi offshoots of Saudi Arabia, does this mean we will attack those scumbag Saudis? Or, perhaps it is just blather to sound good and attack whoever is this week's terrorist group of the week. We are supporting al Qeda in Syria, al Nusra, and I am probably just confused, or not, eh?

Listen up Tim, you fire breathing hawk you!

As a battle cry the term "war" might be okay. But hey! These guys are only criminals. Sure, they do it internationally. Yes, they profess high goals. But all they are is just so many organised thugs. We don't need nor do we want to upgrade these schmucks' status.

I think Kaine is calling for war to prevent the villain of the week conflicts we are currently conducting and hopefully preventing Don from expanding them. Or that is his dreams.

There are no laws protecting noble rights.

There is force, though. And force (or the threat of force) is the only thing that enforces law.
