Looks like Mitt's fortunes are falling, as key member of Trump's camp are coming out against him:

The fight over the Trump administration’s secretary of state appointment has spilled into the open, with some prominent Republicans close to President-elect Donald Trump arguing for a loyal supporter to fill the post rather than longtime critic Mitt Romney, currently a front-runner for the job.

Trump adviser and former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway issued a series of pointed tweets Thursday morning in which she appeared to question the former Massachusetts governor’s suitability for a role working alongside Mr. Trump.

Ms. Conway tweeted that she had received a “deluge”

"I am struck by the intensity and volume of resistance (to Romney) from the grassroots; words like 'betrayal.' I communicate with PEOTUS and VPEOTUS privately and regularly so this is not an attempt to do so publicly as some (who missed the election completely) are suggesting," Conway said.

Nobody likes you, Mitt - at least not anybody who counts.

If Trump picks Romney because he truly is the best man for the job - I would have to congratulate him on his ability to stay calm, be a decisive leader and make a pick regardless of the flack he was getting.

define who "counts"

Those who stood by Trump while Romney was attacking him so viciously

Anyway, either Giuliani or Petraeus would be better choices

If Trump limits himself to GOP types who stood by him, his talent pool shrinks rather substantially

Romney cannot be forgiven because he essentially handed the election to Obama. The last month of the 2012 election was pitiful. He gave up handing the election to Obama.

Well, I'm of the camp that the Pres should represent the American People as a whole, and an office with the import of Sec'y of State should be chosen by competence - rather than political hackery.

That's my concern with Trump. He seems to rewarding personal loyalty moreso than reaching to the larger pool of American citizen talent, knowledge, and experience. Surely all of America's body of governance talent does not reside withing his campaign staff!

And Giuliani? WTH experience does he have in foreign affairs?

I doubt Trump cares....he builds his teams to his specs, not others.

Also, Trump has always been very clear that he intends to be president of all America.

Trump is moving to the one place that is even more shark infested than Manhattan, and he is more of an outsider than ever and he has his entire life been an outsider....if he does not have an extremely loyal team then he becomes chum real fast.

I also point out that Obama spent the whole 8 years demanding extreme loyalty, for perhaps the same reason.

Trump is doing what he has to do.

A person doesn't have to be liked to do a good job, Trump's election shows that. However I just think Mitt would be ****ty at the job. Like legit horrible. If you need a Mormon from Utah who's pretty good with foreign affairs and is actually likable then choose Jon Huntsman jr.

Myth Romney needs to move on. He is pathetic. I think Trump put him on the list just to burst his bubble after he kissed the ring. I have never been a Romney fan and it has nothing to do with his attitude with Trump.

Well, he can go beyond just those - but NeverTrumpers should be last on the list - and quite deservedly so. SecState Romney should be down there with SecState Clinton. Nobody attacked Trump more than Romney, except Clinton. Even Elizabeth Warren wasn't as vociferous, and that's saying a lot.

And Giuliani? WTH experience does he have in foreign affairs?

Rudy has a lot of international governmental ties due to his security consulting business. He actually knows a lot of foreign leaders. He also has strong knowledge of terrorism.

Yes, Jon Huntsman Jr is a lot more refreshing than stagnant old-school Mitt Romney.

Oh, and by the way - what exactly makes Romney some foreign policy genius all of a sudden?

Yes, we all know that his NeoCon supporters mainly care about foreign policy (*cough*Bill Krystol*cough*cough*) - to the point where they were willing to cross over and endorse Hillary. (Supreme Court picks? Who cares about that?)

And so of course they'd like their man Romney in charge of this one portfolio in particular. But **** them - they helped to mess up the international scene in the first place (by no small coincidence)

Trump's son-in-law Kushner seems to be supporting Romney along with Priebus, which is not a good thing.

Romney would make a good, even great choise for SoS.

He is smart, calm, cool under pressure.

Exactly the kind of man we need in the White House. I mean the Department of State.

Romney would make a good #SecretaryOfSnake

He's got nothing going for him, other than being a shill for the NeoCons (aka. NeverTrump movement)

Nobody wants the NeoCons to come back - they exist only to serve themselves, and at everybody else's expense.

Trump's bloodlust over Iran, and his upcoming call for war with Iran, will be very reminiscent of the Neo-Conservative call for war in Iraq.

Watch and learn.

Call to scrap Iran Deal isn't meant as call to war. Remember, Iran is the opposite of Iraq - in the case of Iraq, Saddam had indeed fully complied with scrapping entire WMD program - with Iran, they're hell-bent on acquiring nuclear weapons and haven't abandoned their agenda against the region, and the deal only facilitates them doing so at their leisure. By taking away sanctions, the deal only strengthens Iran, and removes all tools except war, thus making war more likely.

NeoCons were attempting to be the big spoilers against Trump - they are the least deserving of any representation in the Trump govt.
NeoCon opposition to Trump was precisely because they felt he wouldn't toe their line on foreign policy. Let them be exiled - they represent no significant demographic constituency in the United States, they only represent certain power elites & extraterritorialists.

Meaning you think romney is the only man in America capable of being sec of state?

Hum

I happen to think romeny would be a good choice but not the only choice

The more this situation reveals itself, I strongly suspect that those close to Trump have orchestrated this entire Romney fiasco to put him out front and center before the cameras appearing to be interviewing for a job he may have wanted, dangle the bait in front of him, criticize him roundly for not supporting their boss, and then snatch it back and embarrass him mightily in front of the nation.

It looks like this whole fiasco is a big middle finger salute to Romney by the Trump loyalists who are laughing hysterically right now.

And I would love to be proven wrong as Trump names Romney to the post.

Iran is not working on a nuclear weapon. The Israelis have verified this.

The Neo-Cons and many extreme Zionists are desperate to attack and/or invade Iran, so they can remove the last major threat to Israel. Assad is barely functioning and all that remains, is the Islamic Republic.

I would love for that to be exactly the case. Romney is a male version of Hillary. He can go **** himself and I'm hoping this is a conga-line of humiliation set up by Trump loyalists.

Uhh, tell me, why do you think the Iranians are continuing to develop intermediate range ballistic missiles that can hit Israel -- just to deliver protest pamphlets to them? Iran is interested in acquiring nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them.

This is very unlikely. Let's stop with the conspiracy-theorist Kremlinology.

Apparently, the conversation between Trump and Romney went well enough that Trump was leaning towards naming Romney as SecState - and this triggered alarm bells among the rest of Trump's team, so that they're now scrambling to voice their opposition to this.

Romney is a sellout to the NeoCons, and that's why they picked him as front-man for the NeverTrump movement.
Let's be clear: NeverTrump = NeoCons

These are the idiots who backed the Iraq invasion fiasco, and they got really upset after Trump slammed the Bushes & the Iraq War during the South Carolina debates. As soon as he did that, the NeoCons got out the knives for him and started the NeverTrump movement. These NeverTrump NeoCons unhesitatingly crossed the aisle to endorse Hillary as soon as Trump won the GOP nomination -- they didn't give a crap about the consequences for the Supreme Court, or anything else. NeoCons are almost exclusively interested in foreign policy.

To hell with them - their foreign policy is discredited. Dubya ****ed things up domestically & internationally, and Obama continued to **** things up domestically & internationally. So it's actually been 16 years of ****ups, not just 8 years.

No sense bringing the NeoCon idiots back to **** things up more. Keep them out, let them all languish, exiled from power.

Which says a great deal about the temperament, maturity and basic decency of those same Trump loyalists.
