Donald Trump Has Attended Only Two Intelligence Briefings

President-elect Donald Trump has had only two intelligence briefings since he won the election over two weeks ago, intelligence sources told NBC News Wednesday — a much lower number than his predecessors and lower even than Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

A senior intelligence official cautioned that it is too early to know what the significance of Trump's sparse briefing schedule really is, given that he is in the middle of his transition process.

But the news, first reported by the Washington Post, will likely fuel critics who've questioned Trump's knowledge of foreign affairs and national security issues.



While a team of intelligence analysts remains ready and waiting to deliver briefings to the president-elect, sources told NBC News he has accepted them only twice. Instead, Trump has turned the briefings down to focus on meetings with potential Cabinet members, media executives and business associates...

I'm really hoping that this is not what we are going to see from a President that is supposed to care about National Security. Picking a team may be important but attending Intel briefings should take precedence over something that he has plenty of time to do before January. I'm hoping that Trump isn't more concerned with his personal business dealings and is hoping that Mike Pence takes care of Intel is going to be the orthodox avenue for four years. If so, we could be in trouble. :roll:

Perhaps he thinks that 2 briefings when he has no power to do stuff is enough and that its' better to wait untill he can attend with his secretary of state and security minister etc before having more.

What happens if it's something that they're observing and keeping an eye on and nothing that's going down immediately? Shouldn't the President-elect show some caring over that?

Yes, it will be Pence, a man no one elected. It will also be members of Trump's family. Trump is making himself a figurehead.

I hope that isn't his attitude because it would be foolish. There are way too many things to get up to speed on to wait until the last minute. His SECSTATE and SECDEF will get their own tailored briefings.

Seriously? Out of all the Intel briefings, Trump still can't come close to covering half and you think that makes up for it?

On top of that, a sitting President can't get to all of the briefings because of state matters. But what is stopping Trump? He doesn't take over until Jan. 2017 :shrug:

Well, first, thanks for reading that briefing that I said existed. Now, what could he have done? Many things that a sitting President could have done except for sitting in a classroom with a puzzled look. But this is why he looked that way--because when one does not consider important briefings, one will not be prepared at all.

It's Obama's job to make damn sure that Mr. Trump is in the loop, if something is going down. If Mr. Trump has only been to two briefings, it means that all's quiet, or Obama isn't doing his part.

Tell you what. I'll make a deal with you that'll relieve you of all your worry: You convince Obama to step down today...convince him to walk out of the White House...and I'll convince Trump to attend all of his intelligence briefings. (of course, you'll have to change the Constitution before we can do this, but that's just a detail...right?)

Until we get that done, we'll both just have to be satisfied with both men skipping a briefing here or there.


btw, the best thing you can do to reduce your worrying is to quit imagining impending doomsday every time you read some drivel from the media.
