The good news is that very few universities or colleges do pledges such as to the flag or spend much time at all at, near, around, or centered on the flag.

Few colleges do the pledge in the classroom or attend to the flag in outdoor activities.

Many of us (but not enough of us) survived flag centered requirements of law or culture through grades K-12 at school, whether public or private.

Hampshire College as a privately incorporated entity has the latitude to treat the flag in ways that express its local sentiments. Which is what they're doing. The college president wants to try to initiate a focused dialogue about it all within the framework of academic freedom.

Doing it over coffee is good. So for sure, no one needs to be fired or imprisoned...or whatever.

The U.S. flag should be flown at half staff to mourn the twilight of America's Greatest Generation, who stormed the beaches of Anzio and scaled the cliffs of Okinawa, and herald the arrival of Clint Eastwood's ***** Generation, who apparently are afraid of everything, including the flag.

On a happier note, the Hampshire pig is a wonderful pig. It is Thanksgiving, after all. That pig is even black and white, all in one package.

Even if some so-called "right wingers" invented the term, your continued insistence that "the right" (meaning the entirety of people who hold to conservative viewpoints) somehow had a hand in coining the term, or condone white nationalist nonsense, is idiotic. But you already knew that.

Neither is burning flags! Before the election the left was all over Trump for saying that he MIGHT not accept the election results and since the election the left has been all about not accepting the election results. The left is so full of hypocrisy in many different ways. This is just the icing on the cake.

When you only accept election results when your side wins, and then riot, abuse, and destroy things otherwise, you are supporting tyranny. You want tyranny, you are not supporting freedom, liberty or anything else close to that. People that do this are not just crybabies, they are enemies of freedom.

No flag of any country is worth arguing about, IMO.

Sure, it means tons to some people...so do lots of silly things.

There is enough misery in the world as is...to create more over a silly, piece of cloth is asinine, IMO.

Lets see. Students at the college are disgusted and shamed by America. Well...I think there is an absolutely reasonable solution to all of this. Let them be who they want to be, do what they want to do...God bless them and God bless America. Oh...and since America offends you so much we are going to make sure you arent filled with self loathing so we are going to cancel all financial aid to the university and end federally backed student loans to anyone attending the University. But please...feel free to pay out of pocket, or to have mommy and daddy pay for it, or even get a private unsecured student loan.

Problem solved.

Unless you are an illegal immigrant or here on a student visa. You guys have to go...and dont worry. You will be much happier in another country.

By the way, $61,000 a year to attend that college. I'm striking that one off my list for adult education.
