West Virginia mayor under fire, official removed after racist Michelle Obama post

It's like all these racist ****tards heard the liberal media that "racists won the whitehouse", and are like "whoopeeeee!!!!" and then proceed to drop racist bombs because they believed the liberal media. We should do this more often, clean out the hiding racists.
She was however fired for speech by the state.
Think about what you are writing. Free speech does nothing, and should do nothing, to prevent you from getting fired or hired for that matter, unless its protected. We protect sensible things like age, race, sex discrimination. We do not protect ugly racist statements. Especially not from public officials, good lord. And they are not being jailed, just dismissed as ignorant racists. Why don't you just tell your boss to go **** himself Henrin, and then tell him you know, freedom of speech should prevent you from being fired (don't really do that, it would be stupid).

The removal of the mayor from office and the charity official from her post (where I presume she would be signing documents saying she ensures equality and stops prejudice) are reminders that racist idiocy does have consequences, even in the USA where I fully expect to read about people denying this was actual racism.

The thread has not run it's course yet, wait for it.

Keyishian v. Board of Regents

The SCOTUS overruled the Adler v. Board of Education decision and held essentially that the government ought not to be able to do indirectly what it cannot do directly (abridge a government employee's free speech) and that public employment cannot be conditioned on a surrender of constitutional rights.

Maybe they should sue. However, the woman who made the post works for these people:
The nonprofit development group provides services to elderly and low-income residents in Clay County. It is funded through state and federal grants and local fees. It is not affiliated with the town of Clay

That's not a government job.

I don't see that the mayor has been removed from her job, but there is a petition. We'll see. She could face a recall.

It was supposed to be a "funny".

I guess her employer didn't find it funny.

I don't find calling a black woman "an ape in heels" funny myself. I don't think I'm alone in that.

So the state can act on people because of their speech under certain situations? I don't recall reading that in the first amendment.
The government is free to employee those that represent the values of their community, if that person does not then they are allowed to fire them, just like a business. The Military can bring you up on charges for voicing your political opinion, same thing, any politician should know that. So show me where they cannot fire them for conduct unbecoming their office?

My reading of the article is that she did not work for the state, but a private non-profit entity.

You sure? Don't I count? I feel like I do since last Tuesday.

You count to you and those that think this was actually amusing, as for counting with most Americans, no you don't.

Oh my! This should make the election results null and void.

You and Gina are taking it out of context. I meant whatever it involved will not stop Trump from being president. That guy knew when he said it it was wrong, or he should have.

Since every example of racism is taken as epidemic is part of the narrative that lost Clinton the election.

We'll see if she needs to, I guess.

She hasn't been terminated, only "placed on leave".

I don't see that the mayor has been removed from her job, but there is a petition. We'll see. She could face a recall.

She could.

But since 80% of Clay County voters voted for Donald Trump something tells me that would be a pretty futile effort.

She could.

But since fully 100% of Clay County voters voted for Donald Trump something tells me that would be a pretty futile effort.

Are you saying that Clay County finds this amusing?

I don't see that the first one would have a case based on who employed her.

And maybe the people of Clay don't have a problem with her comments. People doing business with the city, might.

Good for you, but I figured that.

It is funny though. Calling Trumps wife classy, dignified and beautiful is hilarious.

No one said it would stop Trump from being President. How odd.

Unfortunately, the First Lady and her family have been the subject of racist comments since Barack Obama became president. Sadly, this is nothing new. And it's still not funny after 8 years.

I know that is true, but it is and has been overblown. There is plenty of hate coming from people of color too. Somehow we have managed to ignore that, or excuse it.

Agreed.

Regarding the comment made: Social media is a sewer and should be avoided at all costs unless it's used as an advertising/marketing medium. Lastly, I'll quote Mr. Gump: "Stupid is as stupid does."

Why? Her rights were not violated. She got to say what she wanted. No one is arresting her for that.

I totally don't get this one. Why?

If she got fired for being gay, would her rights have been violated?

Repeal the First Amendment!!!

It's really not a first amendment issue. It's a moron issue. Anyone who says something like that on the internet and assumes it's not going to come back and bite them on the ass is a moron and should not be let out of the sanbox let alone be put in charge of anything important.
