Forget Mars, Trump wants NASA to visit Europa and explore the solar system

Do you want to have a civil debate wherein (at least *I* personally think) we could meet a middle ground and both learn something... ?

Insulting people off the bat does not lead way into a civil debate.

I have to hand it to Trump on this one. Increasing NASA's budget and having them work towards a specific goal is good for everyone. It will inspire scientists from around the world to want to csome to the U.S., and let's not forget about new technologies invented along the way. So far, he seems like he is going to be a lousy republican. Thank god.

There is a massive difference between saying and doing.

It won't get done.

Well I think we should go to Europa:

Jupiter's Icy Moon Europa: Best Bet for Alien Life?

Life may exist there under the ice. Which would be very important for humans. And then there is:

10 Underwater Facilities You Could Actually Live In - Listverse

Could we survive under the Ice on a moon? And not have to take water or air? That could be "YUGE!"

Depends on what you mean by 'go to Europa'.

We've had satellites take pics. We might be able to take the Mars rover idea and make it work there. The big problem is that everything is going to be brutally hard to do there. To get to the water we have to get through at least ten miles of ice. The surface is uneven, and prob hard to deal with. We will prob need to send a series of probes, learning how to deal with the place one step at a time. When it gets time to get serious, the cost of getting through miles of ice will prob be considerable.

This is not to say I am against it. I love the idea. But it won't be cheap, and progress will be slow. But Europa would be a great place to learn, and we have a lot of learning to do.

True. One thing we as humans will have to accomplish to make interstellar research and traveling a feasible objective is going to involve construction of mini drones that are incredibly durable...and while expensive...would hopefully be relatively cheap.

Something that could be dropped on the ice like a mini drill that could just bore its way down 10 miles using heat or a "frickin laser" (sorry lol)...would be interesting. Maybe even power it on hydrogen if possible? Idk.

You are right it would be brutal. But other than dealing with asteroids (which we should)...what else can we do?
