Trump election: Nato Chief Warns Against Going It Alone

Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warns President-elect Donald Trump:

Trump election: Nato chief warns against going it alone - BBC News

Uhh, last time I checked, this NATO Secretary General is not someone who's stood for any election, or has any direct mandate from any people - he's just an appointed bureaucrat. I don't think it's this joker's place to be issuing any public warnings to any elected decision-maker. After all, he's supposed to be answerable to the elected officeholders, and not the other way around. It's one thing for him to be expressing himself in private to the national leaders who are his bosses - but it's quite another thing for him to be publicly challenging their views. These appointees cannot behave like an authority unto themselves.

Well, since the guy IS the head of NATO and Trump wants to jack up existing relations with NATO, then the man has a responsibility to comment on it and let people know what's goin on.

NATO on its own - minus the voters - is just a hollow bureaucracy. I'd listen to those who've recently voted, over the words of well-paid bureaucrats who have an interest in keeping their well-paid jobs. The voters inside NATO are the ones who really speak for NATO, rather than some appointed bureaucratic fatcats.

Oh, I didn't know he was just the janitor.

The janitor and the "others" have to vote on agreements and actions, not on statements of policy made by the guy that the voters picked to head the operation.

That was uncalled for on my part. Apologies. Went back and re-read your post.

No problem.

The first internet forum I participated in was the Political Asylum in the Audio Aslyum. When I showed up, it was a Right wing smooch fest. This was not your average group, these guys were smart. I handled them, and their invective.

One of the guys was Victor Khomenko, the guy behind Balanced Audio Technologies. His politics were goofy, but his engineering skill is out of this world. If you ever get the change to experience his work, I strongly suggest you avail yourself of the opportunity. The best stereos make you feel like the performer is in the room with you. A lot of his stuff does that. I could never afford it, even used. But I admire his work without reservation.

Trump didn't call our allies, as is tradition. He hasn't spoken to most of them, but a couple have managed to get through to him. Australia's PM knows a golf pro who had Trump's personal cell number, and got through that way.

Weird doesn't begin to describe the situation.
