A New York elementary school has canceled its traditional mock presidential election after kids chanted “Trump” and repeated “negative rhetoric about minorities,” according to the school principal.

Children at Jericho Elementary School in Centereach will be voting for their favorite school lunch instead of their favorite presidential candidate after their mock campaign season got too heated.

“Some people were getting angry because some people like Trump and some people like Clinton,” fifth-grader Miranda Waters told a local ABC News affiliate. “Some people think Clinton’s not good. Some think Trump’s not good. So there’s a lot of arguments going on, and I don’t like that.”

School officials decided to cancel the mock election to prevent minority students “from feeling uncomfortable,” according to Glen Rogers, the school’s principal.

Wowee, we get to vote for our favorite school lunch while preserving our vulnerable psyches at the same time! What will it be? Sprouts, or corndogs?

:lamo That's hilarious.

It's ok. We have mock elections too.

At my elementary school we got to vote between home-made pizza or frozen pizza. frozen pizza won. don't trust the judgment of kids.

I remember at my middle school they had a mock election for the 2012 season. At my school Romney won, but in the school district overall Obama won.

But more to the point, they should have seen that coming a mile away. When it comes to pretty much anything in the realm of politics, aguments are bound to happen.

Trump won our school election too. He just barely beat out Harambe and Ballsack.

That is what happens when you have snowflake administrators.

Newsflash... Every kid in the school is going to have to face adversity in their life.
Teach them how to work through it. Don't hide from it.
What the hell is going on in our school system?

I vote for corn dogs!

Yeah, in one sense it is funny, but in another it's tragic. Here the school was presented with an opportunity to give these kids a lesson in civics (and civility), but instead of embracing it by teaching them how to deal with negative, real-world tension, the school abdicated its responsibility and ran away from it. I can begin to see now why, once they enter college, we end up with George Will's "delicate snowflakes" who are ill-prepared to face this thing called "life" and feel the need to retreat to their safe spaces.

Got to train up the next generation on victim culture dont ya know.....

Cant get enough invalids for the minders to manage if we dont.

I just saw this post after I posted my thoughts in further detail, and I can see we think a lot alike on the topic. Well done. Seems like common sense to me. ;)

Yeah, nothing like 'negative chants about minorities' to enhance the educational experience.

There is no mention of negative chants, only negative words, which of course are not allowed in Utopia....

It was mainly arguments they were trying to prevent. But that's just what happens in life; you can't escape reality. No need to shut it down.

But obviously, that's up to the school to decide. Not me.

I lol-ed...don't know if that makes me a horrible person or not.

Part of an educational experience is teaching kids how to deal with adversity as well as the benefits of civil discourse. You won't end racism by clicking your heels together three times or wishing it away by changing the subject.

Right, we are going to pretend the conflict does not exist rather than teach youth how to deal with it, cause that is how we roll.... we dont teach skills to youth, we lie to them, much easier than doing the work dont ya know.

This is how we ended up with a generation that is the most unprepared to deal with life in probably forever.

They are going to be some bitter mother****ers by middle age.

No doubt.

Those views exist in the world and minority kids will have to learn to live with that fact one way or another. It is better to use the chance to teach than to just hide things from kids.

OMG, you are sure out of date.

And take the chance of needing to deal with some unpleasantness, from both the kids and the parents??!!

Are you joking?

*sarcasm*

Trump has certainly brought out the worst in America. He has allowed a forum for the closet bigots and sexists to come forward

The suppression effort has failed.

This is a good thing, there is no place for that in a democracy that aspires to promote freedom.

Oh, brother. :doh You know what? You can :moon:

Just think, people are actually sharing their views with the world where they can be challenged for what they are. Outrageous!

No what we should do is not use this an opportunity and instead just complain and attempt to shut it down again. Sorry, I keep forgetting how you're supposed to solve problems in the 21st century. Talk things out and allow people to speak? NO WAY! Deal with the reality that people have opposing positions? NO WAY! Clearly the left is onto something with their shut it all down tactics.
