In his last few months in the Senate, Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, isn’t pulling any punches -- especially after the recent revelations by FBI Director James Comey that more emails were found that could be related to the Clinton email probe.

The pugilistic Reid, who plans to retire after finishing out this term in Congress, penned a blistering letter to Comey Sunday, accusing the FBI chief of holding back “explosive” information about Donald Trump’s close Russian ties while possibly violating the Hatch Act by reviving the Clinton email investigation.

Reid does seem to have a point. The FBI had this information weeks ago, the article I read said. Yet, he waited until 1 1/2 weeks before the biggest election in the country to choose to send a public letter to Congress about it. Reid has a point.

The Hatch Act prohibits FBI officials from using their official authority to influence an election. Reid said that by releasing this information, which he says is not conclusive or pertinent, Comey may have broken the law. Reid referenced a memo from Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates from March of this year that establishes all Justice Department employees, including Comey, are subject to the Hatch Act.

"I am writing to inform you that my office has determined that these actions may violate the Hatch Act," Reid said in his letter to Comey. "Through your partisan actions, you may have broken the law."

It seems to me that every time the Democrats pull out some conspiracy and blame the Republicans it turns out later that THEY are the ones pulling the stunt. Maybe it's time to start looking at Hillary's ties to Russia.

Yeah, conservatives aren't used to Democrats who spit back when they're spit on. Reid has a point. If it's true that the FBI had this information for weeks, and chose to send a public letter about it 10 days before the election, Deputy Comey may indeed be in trouble with the law.

What CNN wrote in the link was not very fine tuned wording.

Yes, he is influencing an election intentionally, if it's true he had knowledge of those emails for weeks, and sat on it and waited to send a public letter to Congress about it.

Comey would be doing his job properly if he had sent the letter weeks ago. To sit on it and wait until a more critical time..yeah, that was for the purpose of influencing an election. Now, if it can be shown they just learned on those emails the day before Comey sent the letter, that's a different matter.

You want the facts, right? You want things to be done in accordance with the law, right? Even it hurts the opponent. Right? Since you're an American and want the law and our legal process observed. (I suspect you want anything done if it hurts the opponent, even if it's illegal.)

Comey did his job, BTW. The conservative whining about Comey being on the take or blackmailed, as you can see, was just that: whining. With no basis in fact.

Nope, Reid doesn't have a point. There may well have been internal back and forth on what to do about the new revelations, but the key to why Reid is full of dog excrement is that the information itself would influence the election either way. Had he sat on the information through the election he would have also been "influencing the election".

In the end, the investigation is the investigation and that is Comey's job. Reid has nobody to blame for this cluster boink other than Hillary Clinton.

The Hatch Act was never meant to prevent the FBI from investigating potential crimes. Reid's claim is stupid

No, he actually didn't.

1. It was proven classified information was on her server.
2. It was proven she destroyed evidence.
3. It was shown that she ordered people to get her classified information to her private server. (aka intent) Which is also why her assistant likely has classified information on her computer since she failed to print from a classified computer and had to copy it to her computer. Oh and btw, she couldn't print from that computer by DESIGN.
4. It has shown that the law does not need intent like he claimed.

You also have no idea what he was doing for those weeks he had the computers, so your case is pretty weak.

The Hatch Act as it relates to the FBI is meant to restrict FBI personnel from engaging in political activity such as the Director making a political endorsement. Investigation of potential crime is not a political activity.

Russia has absolutely nothing to do with the Weinergate stuff - there was nothing on Wikileaks about Weiner, etc - so let's not mix issues and muddy the waters.

Harry Reid seems to be trying to do exactly that, by mentioning Russia in this whole thing. If Reid wants to complain about Comey's actions, what the hell is he trying to prove by mentioning Trump-Russia?

I'm quite certain that the Director of the FBI is neither loyal to Trump nor loyal to Vladimir Putin - the very idea is nutty - so let's stop injecting Russia or Trump into the discussion on why Comey did what he did.

First of all, the rumor is that the New York FBI team investigating Weiner had the information for weeks, and waited all this time before passing it to Comey. So the allegation doesn't seem to be that Comey himself was sitting on the information these past weeks. It looks more like once Comey found out about this stuff the other day, he then quickly send out the letter to Congress informing them that the investigation was back on.
