Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton to show their funny sides at annual dinner

The guy with medal on his chest? I wonder what thats all about.

Trump blew it again...he didn't seem to get the idea or spirit of the event. Not enough self deprecation, apparently.

The event should be set on fire and left to rot.

Really? Man, I dunno... Seems like every time we're heard him try to be amusing, he winds up being so horrifically offensive that even my racist 90-year-old grandmother would have shaken her head in disapproval.

Great humor requires focus and introspection. If there's one thing we've learned about Trump over these last couple years, it's that he is not in possession of either one.

Ding, ding, ding.... we have a winner: prognostication of the day.

What joke? The event? It's not funny.

I thought Trump's "pardon me" joke was pretty good. Didn't you?

I like the event. It's nice to see the lighter side of the candidates and their sense of humor...such as it is.

Ugh. Trump is capable of being funny. He's made me chuckle a couple times. Clinton, on the other hand, can't do funny. It's not coded into her DNA. I feel bad for her having to go through that. I've had to do public stints where I have to be something that I'm not, and it's no damn fun.

Actually she was pretty funny. Trump started out funny, then tanked. Yuuuuuge!

She actually did very well, had lots of crack-up zingers for folks around the room, and had several hilarious self-deprecating zingers on herself. Frankly, she owned the room. Had me in stitches.

Guilliani looked like he was going to pop a blood vessel when Hillary brought him into the mix, lol.

Guiliani's ass took a bite out of his chair. She nailed him.

Oddly enough I have this feeling that Trump can be funny.

Maybe if you were just BSing with the guy but maybe not in a political setting.

Say what you will, Hillary has access to Obama's speech writers and although she doesn't have Obama's wicked comedic timing, she really had the entire room... with a few notable exceptions... cracking up!

Yup, I was quite surprised. But I think they really made the most of her... shall we say, rather dry presence?

She definitely had good writers who knew how to write to what she can pull off. And I really think the Jim Halpert comparisons are apt, as far as her reactions to how this election is going. Hillary has found a situation insane enough to make proper comedic use of her flatness, and even that weird random kookiness she's always had.

Honestly, I would not have put money on Hillary taking the night at a comedy event (though I would have on Trump burning it to the ground, as he did). But that seems to be what happened.

2016, man... Full of ****ing surprises...

Alas, he then started in on This Crooked Hillary is So Corrupt... and received repeated boo's for his vicious, partisan attack, which violated both the spirit and the rules of this charity event.

But yes, Hillary was a great sport and laughed at nearly all the zings directed at her.

Don needs to learn to poke fun at himself, lighten up some, hell even Hillary was having fun.

Another example of Trump lacking the abilities to be a really skilled demagogue. That authoritarian leaders that have risen to power have often been able to rally and galvanize their supporters while at the same time act reasonable, composed, pleasant and nice to non-supporters then needed.

Thankfully Trump lacks those abilities to interact with non- supporters, while at the same time scary that he has come so far without those abilities. Because what will happen then a really skilled demagogue with authoritarian leaning is running for president?

Trumps was cringe worthy for the most part

Hillary's was worthy of at least a few decent chuckles.

Both were hampered largely by their delivery, but Trumps was just atrocious

Really? I think they were both stiff as hell....Almost painful....The consensus seems to be that people loved it when Trump hacked himself up, but not so much when he went after Hillary....And they just loved when Hillary attacked Trump...Little hypocritical if you ask me, but hey, it was a NY crowd....What do you expect....?

Either way, it was a throw away event that really doesn't matter much except for the charity....Other than maybe Hillary revealing classified information, and Trump making everyone squirm with his punch at Hillary's hate for the Catholic Church.

Yup. But her writers gave her a good set to make that fact not matter so much. Some forms of humor can work well with a rather flat personality delivering them, and evidently they got that. I thought she was passably decent.

Trump didn't hack himself at all (hacking his wife doesn't count), and he didn't make many jokes about Hillary. He went on a bitter, whiney screed of conspiracy theory nonsense.

But that said, one of his jokes that's getting pretty decent play, and that got a decent response at the event, was his "pardon me" joke. So, evidently, they did like some of the actual jokes he made about Clinton. It's just that most of it wasn't jokes. It was just horrible inflammatory bull****.

Hillary didn't reveal anything "classified," nor does she hate Catholics. And while it may be true this won't matter in the same way the debates mattered, it is rather stupid for Trump to be blowing literally every chance he gets to try to gain a vote or two when he's nearly 10 points down.

And what made his set so utterly un-funny is that he wants to blame literally everyone except himself for that fact, even while he stands on stage, a 70-year-old man, and throws his toys around because he doesn't think it's fair that someone who out-studied him is doing better on a test than he is, after he's done nothing but insult most of the American people endlessly.

No one likes a sore loser. It's childish, and for someone who's so obsessed with his own manliness, it's definitely not very manly.

Wait, don't tell me....You will vote for Hillary in the election....lol....Look, Don't play like Hillary didn't go on the attack against Trump, and all Trump did was attack....That is just lopsided partisan analysis....Apparently no one in here knows what a "Roast" is.....Usually at these things the jokes can border insults and can be uncomfortable....

This just shows how petty liberals are.

'Course I did. I'm not a liberal, as many Clinton voters aren't, and I was a late breaker who wasn't going to vote, until it became apparent to me how utterly insane and unfit Trump is. This is the man who's encouraged a coup more than once and still has no idea how the branches of government work.

She told a couple jokes that hit the borderline for this sort of event, in my opinion. But she did not stomp it out of existence and stand there whining like a 3-year-old as he did. And she actually told... jokes. Not just endless conspiratorial attacks.

Like I said, on the rare occasion Trump managed to tell an actual joke, they didn't go too badly. He just didn't spend most of his time doing that. He spent most of his time being a whining idiot.

Then you were watching/listening to a different event then I was....See, I understood it was a Roast...Knowing what that is, I actually thought that the attacks were funny....On both sides.

 Didn't you hear Trump point out the different news organizations in the audience, what makes you think it was priests?

Trump was good for the first 10 or 12 minutes. His Melania joke was great. Then his jokes for the next few minutes were a little too heavy, he should've kept it lighter.

Roasts are still supposed to be funny, not tin foil hate-wearing whine-fests. His actual jokes went ok.

What is funny about a grown man stamping his feet and crying about how unfair it all is? And that's basically all you're doing here, insisting that the entire event was just biased against him, despite the beginning of his set going fine before he devolved into belligerent ranting.
