Duterte aligns Philippines with China, says U.S. has lost

You get off on making **** up out of thin air, don't you?

Uh....no.

That was another thread he started. You can find it if you spend even a fraction of a little bit looking.

How does your deflection offer immunity to the US for its war crimes; and more importantly, support that the US stands above international law to accuse others?

Military imperialism at the expense of the rights and lives of the invaded is okay as long as it is America doing it!

Sounds positive to me. We can shut down Subic Bay, bring the folks home and save a few bucks. Why would we spend 5 minutes worrying about the Phillipines?

Just because a country isn't perfect doesn't mean that it can't offer important criticism of policies of another country which go against human rights.

If we applied your standard no country in the world could say a word when regimes like Baathist Iraq butcher their populace.

We might have plenty to say if we weren't butchers ourselves. You can't drape yourself in the American flag and patriotic jingoism as some protection from scrutiny.

I love my country, served in the military, and am disgusted with how we treat the world.

Hm.....MOS? Where were you stationed?

In order to hold on to the idea that this is embarrassing to the United States, you're basically required to forget that Duterte is completely insane.

Kerry said on Tuesday he supported the resumption of talks between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea following an international court ruling against Beijing over the dispute earlier this month.
During the meeting in Vientiane, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi asked Kerry to lend his support for bilateral talks to restart between Manila and Beijing.
"I expect the conversation to include more exploration on the question of what a constructive, positive and peaceful and lawful path forward looks like," the U.S. official said, adding that the Philippines had behaved with restraint since the court ruling.
Kerry got played like a fiddle. He's such a buffoon. He pretty much invited the Chinese to seal the alliance. Idiot.

Invaded Grenada. what a lie that was.

The New Jewel Party took power illegally in a coup. If they'd actually had support from the Grenadan people they'd hardly have needed to force their way into power, don't ya think?

Those who are devising US foreign policy these days are just a bunch of Atlanticists (Europe-obsessed types) who've managed to shelter under the US Democrat Coalition of (Ethnic) Special Interests. Look at bootlickers like Czech-born Maria Korbel (aka. "Madeleine Albright") whose appointment as the first female secretary of state saw her being criticized as an Atlanticist during her senate confirmation hearings. Or people like former Carter Whitehouse NSA, Zbigniew Brzezinski who was one of the earliest people in Washington to endorse Obama.

These people are motivated by antipathy towards Moscow and little else. While they were bombing their way into the Balkans in Central Europe during the early 1990s, they couldn't be bothered to notice that AlQaeda were rising, and America was on a Road to 9/11.

Likewise, they're now totally obsessed with beating Russia in Syria, and have merely cobbled together a jury-rigged Asia policy as an afterthought. China, which is very focused and organized, has now deftly shattered this makeshift US policy to show how pathetic it is.

Duterte was a dark-horse candidate whose campaign recieved seed money from Chinese mining interests fronting for Beijing, and had links to communist guerrillas who were ostensibly fighting the drug trade.

Duterte is a Manchurian Candidate.

If Syria is the place this brain trust has focused on, is the best that they can do, as we used to say when we were a Christian people "God help us".

You will recall that Russia was not supposed to need to be beaten in Syria, because Putin had made a huge blunder, that's what everyone said, and they acted like they believed that.

We were made to believe it was a Soviet invasion. and students needed rescuing.

I guess we can stop granting Filipinos US citizenship then?

What a disaster. Expect more fecklessness under Hillary.

If Trump were president, how will he handle this situation?

Filipinos aren't exactly known for good judgement. They loved Ferdinand Marcos for several years too.

If Trump were to be elected, would be like the Marcos madness in USA.

After the Iranian fiasco nobody was taking any chances with the safety of American civillians, and I wouldn't have put it past Castro to have made a play against them had the invasion not occurred.

If the Philippines have aligned with China then we should stop granting them birthright citizenship. Let them try their luck with China.
What birthright citizenship?

Noam was horribly wrong on Cambodia so his credibility is a bit....lacking in my book.
As you can see by my nick, I enjoy reading Chomsky. But yours is a fair point.

In fact - he's wrong or unsupported on a lot of things, but I find him interesting due to his often novel and iconoclastic approaches to conventional subjects.

But he's not for everybody ...

He's a unique character for sure.

I'm also blown away how he can have interesting ideas that jump off of the printed page, but then contrasted with how boringly monotonic he can be in oral presentation!

If all anyone knows of the guy is video or audio, they'll never get past the first 5 mins!

A big part of that is probably the social aspect--- some people are good writers but just don't do presentations well.
