Contractors sickened by military burn pits left to fend for themselves | Fox News

It’s known as “the new Agent Orange.”

Thousands of soldiers have fallen gravely ill or even died from exposure to burn pits in Afghanistan and Iraq, but they are not the only ones who have gotten sick. Civilian workers and private contractors are also suffering maladies including cancer, respiratory problems and blood disorders and, like military victims, they say they are being ignored.
But private employees often don't even have the Veterans Administration to lean on.
“Who’s responsible for us? Who’s going to start taking care of us?” asked Bobby Elesky, 52, a vet-turned-private contractor who worked out of Kandahar during the war in Afghanistan.

We had constant smoke from the burn pit, day and night. The only break we got is if the wind changed.

Damn shame, Nono. and it's a damn shame how our vets are mistreated when they come home too.

Yeah, go figure. I avoid the VA. I burnt the card they sent me for medical and I pay for my own insurance. If I have a problem I want cured, not killed. We had constant smoke from the burn pit, day and night. The only break we got is if the wind changed.

What were they burning?

What were they burning?

Everything. 83282 hydraulic fluid, turbine engine oil, goretex clothing, plastic, jet fuel, methyl ethyl keytone, PD680, wire, air conditioners, refrigerators. They burnt anything that one would find in a land fill except they burnt all of our old chemicals in it also. Lots of aviation chemicals. There wasn't anything that they didn't burn. We disposed of all of everything in the burn pit.
