Obama relaxes trade restrictions with Cuba

Oh for God's sake...What's the matter with you?

Whats the matter with you? For some reason being allowed to bring back to the US as much Cuban cigars and Cuban rum makes us closer to becoming a communist country and you know that deep down Barack Obama is a communist?

Good cigars and rum.
Which we already have. Seems like this will be more of a novelty for some, and give capitalists the opportunity to jack up prices on these items made by poor communists in Cuba. Kind of funny, actually.

Nixon was a moderate. These days, that means he'd be classified as at best a RINO, or more likely a Commie Pinko:

- He was a Keynesian
- He put the final nail in the coffin of the Gold Standard
- He froze prices and wages temporarily
- He expanded government programs
- He expanded black voting rights and required affirmative action for govt contracts (note, he was also a virulent racist and anti-semite in private)
- He wanted to integrate schools
- He created the EPA
- He passed the Clean Air Act
- Pushed for trade with China
- Was in favor of free trade
- Helped extend the vote to 18 year olds
- Was against Presidential term limits
- Strongly favored gun control, wanted laws stricter than the Brady Bill
- Wanted national health insurance
- Was generally pro-immigration
- Thought it was OK to increase taxes
- Proposed a national income guarantee (N.B. he wasn't a huge fan of welfare overall)
- Founded Legal Services, which provides free legal services for the poor in civil cases
- Was pro-choice / did nothing when Roe v Wade was decided during his term

While he held many positions that we'd call conservative today (e.g. pro school choice), it seems fairly evident that he holds a lot more in common with the policies of Barak Obama than with Ted Cruz.

Wow, Now that's how to revise history....Way to go.

Hmmmm....So, one could actually argue that Obama is facilitating the exploitation of the poor Cuban worker....

That's iit?...umm..LMAO.
Nope...umm...LMAO.
"...allowing more collaboration on medical research, the approval of Cuban drugs for import and the lifting of monetary limits on cigars and rum imports... All of the changes are intended to expand opportunities for scientific collaboration by authorizing certain transactions related to Cuban-origin pharmaceuticals and joint medical research; improve living conditions for Cubans by expanding existing authorizations for grants and humanitarian-related services, and increase people-to-people contact in Cuba by facilitating authorized travel and commerce, the departments said. They also facilitate safe travel between the United States and Cuba by authorizing civil aviation safety-related services; and bolster trade and commercial opportunities by expanding and streamlining authorizations relating to trade and commerce.... The latest move will authorize collaboration between U.S. and Cuban medical researchers, allow U.S. citizens to provide services to improve Cuba’s infrastructure and remove dollar limitations on the import of cigar, alcohol and other goods for personal use... The new policy will also allow personal goods ranging from air conditioners to toothbrushes to be sent directly to Cuban citizens. It also removes caps on the amount of remittances U.S. citizens can send to Cuban relatives, which the administration hopes will create growth in the private sector, an administration official said."

Wow, Now that's how to revise history....Way to go.
Lol... No, there is no revision. Those were his positions and/or actions.

Richard Nixon on the Issues

Again, he also held numerous positions we'd call conservative today. But there is no way a Republican could state "I'm a Keynesian, I support the EPA, I want more trade with China, and will freeze prices if necessary" without being branded a RINO or worse.

It is pertinent. More importantly, opening up a new thread would potentially violate the rules, as it might be construed as a call-out thread.

1. authorizing certain transactions related to Cuban-origin pharmaceuticals - We don't allow Canadian pharma, but we would take Cuban? Doesn't make sense.

2. improve living conditions for Cubans by expanding existing authorizations for grants and humanitarian-related services - So, we are going to rebuild Cuba instead of taking care of our own infrastructure....Great!

3. increase people-to-people contact in Cuba by facilitating authorized travel and commerce - There's your cigars, and rum....meaningless in the long run, most of the trade will be from here to there.

4. They also facilitate safe travel between the United States and Cuba by authorizing civil aviation safety-related services; and bolster trade and commercial opportunities by expanding and streamlining authorizations relating to trade and commerce....Another sentence saying that we can now move jobs there....Taking more American jobs away.

5. The new policy will also allow personal goods ranging from air conditioners to toothbrushes to be sent directly to Cuban citizens. It also removes caps on the amount of remittances U.S. citizens can send to Cuban relatives, which the administration hopes will create growth in the private sector - I am wondering why we are going to rebuild Cuba, when our own country needs so much done.

Nonsense, this thread is about Cuba, not Nixon....In fact you are attempting to derail the thread with this crap....

What about that is revisionism?

Please be very, very specific.

What he thinks is falsely revisionist is more like "What? I didn't know any of that!"

LOL! Oh, you mean like you just tried to in the thread about Trump's son?

Irony!

Doubt you can, but give er a go....

And a swing and a miss...As I thought....Look, nothing like that...But, our Dear Leader seems to show affinity for Communist/Socialist Nations, so I was just lamenting that he should just take off the mask, he's running out of time.

We trade with Mexico too, so I guess Obama wants us to be a drug cartel

But communists can't do anything right, businesses won't ship jobs there if they can't do the job cheaper or better.
