"BURLINGTON, Wash. -- A search is underway for an armed man suspected of killing at least three people and injuring two others in a shooting at Cascade Mall in Skagit County, the Washington State Patrol says.
According to police, three women were killed, and two others were wounded, including one man who suffered life-threatening injuries.

The suspected shooter was last seen walking towards Interstate 5, away from the mall Sgt. Francis tells KOMO News."

Burlington appears to be a town of less than 9,000, and sits very close to the Canadian border. The kind of town that probably has very low crime.

It's about an hours drive from the peace arch border crossing. And a 30 minute drive from Anacortes where a ferry can be caught to Vancouver island

It's a small town residentially, but the mall brings in thousands from the surrounding county and it shares a border with Mt Vernon, a town of 40 thousand people.

I used to deliver to this mall in a previous truck driving job I had. It's a fairly large mall

Thoughts, I'm guessing this was a personal dispute gone bad, since the security camera doesn't show a rifle probably carried out with a pistol. I know the area geographically but am not from there nor have I spent time at this mall milling around, I don't know how many people hang out at Macy's here, but it's an odd target for mass casualty or terrorism purposes, so likely a personal thing.

Burlington and Mount Vernon are pretty much the same town. So you are talking more like 45,000. Mostly agricultural. Large Hispanic population.

I know the area well. If I had to guess. I would go with a jealous ex.

Just listened to an eye witness account that said the shooter left a .22 caliber rifle on the counter inside the store. And he said two of the victims were elderly.

Why is this breaking news? These women white or something? There is this kind of shooting every single day in the US.. multiple times.

There are gang shootings every day but there is not this kind of shooting into a public facility every single day in the US. If you have link to multiple mall shootings every day then please by all means share it.

With the number of store cameras it is hope they will have more shots of this perp.

Odd location for a shooting in a Macy's. Carrying a long rifle shows this was a planned shooting and not a spontaneous fight. If he was an employee other coworkers would recognize him.

A mass shooting in public is a mass shooting regardless if it is gang bangers or right wing terrorists going nuts.

A mass shooting with an active shooter is always breaking news, regardless of the race of the victims. There are people on this board from Washington, so if I can warn them about a nutbag with a gun, I'm going to do it.

I know it's near Mt Vernon, but it sounds more important if you say "Shooting at Washington Mall"

You still think Jealous ex? I think we'd know the suspects ID by now if it were.

This is pure speculation, do you think it was a hit? seriously, go walks in, kills victim, maybe a couple witnesses for good measure, leaves his gun on a counter, and walks out towards I-5. and hasn't been seen since. drug or business related contract killing not out of the question.

the timing and location are not consistent with a nut wanting to leave bodies, and usually ex's are the first people the cops look at if a woman is the victim, and it doesn't take long for investigators to come up with a list of boyfriends and run down their alibis. especially since we have his full face on camera. that's like a 2 hour investigation to come up with a suspect if it were...
