What happened to the thorough vetting all these people went through before they came into this country? Or was that just Obama mouthing what he thought would ally the legitimate concerns of people?

Of course to transfer those old paper records to modern digital format would require spending more money - something some people don't think the government should be doing. Unintended consequences

If I understand you correctly, Obama shouldn't be criticized because of this in a switch on "I inherited this mess"

However, he was elected in 2008, the year it became known, and has had eight full years to identify the problem and fix it.

In real life, you get fired for that kind of incompetence.

1.)You do realize when Obama took office, correct? It wasn't 2008....
2.)This audit covered the years pre-2010 because fingerprints were not kept consistently under 2010....

Do you understand how the budget cycle works? Money is requested for various projects and services by Obama. Congress allocates funding for these in the budget.

The request is on page 111 of the document I linked to. It reads as follows:

My understanding is that Congress did fund it. I also understand that it takes time to convert everything to digital images, which can then be accessed by computer. Before 2010, there are literally millions of pages of immigrant data on paper only, which spans more than 50 years. One change in the Obama Administration is that, from that point on, every visitor to the US has his or her fingerprints taken, and a biometric profile is then created. I give Obama credit for that.

The accidental citizenships go back many decades. In fact, 206 of them were identified in 2008, during the Bush administration. Not all of them have been prosecuted, however, as some of them are due to mistakes in paperwork, rather than intent to defraud. One of those is now a police officer.

Fact is, both Democrats and Republicans have been working hard since 2010 to get this loophole removed, and this is not an issue that douche bags, whether Democratic or Republican, should be using to criticize anybody, whether Democratic or Republican.

I'm very much aware of how it works. The President submits a proposal and Congress generally does whatever it wants regardless.

Watching apdst and American complain about 800 people erroneously getting citizenship out of 6,000,000 naturalized in the same decade is absolutely hilarious.
