Former Texas official says he was told to drop Trump University probe

I would agree. Stupid people indeed. Those same people would have probably voted for the shyster if they hadn't already taken it up the ass by Comrade Trump. I suppose some people just have to learn the hard way. :coffeepap

Many of them undoubtedly still will. There's no question in my mind that the information was useful. Those kinds of "classes" always are. But few FEW have the moxie to follow-thru with the zeal and guts it takes to make it happen in their on lives. If they did? They wouldn't need the course.

Trump U agreed to stop all operations in Texas. The state got what it wanted. Why spend millions in the courtroom and perhaps lose? I don't want someone with your lofty mindset spending MY tax dollars on principle...

But why should the state "want" to stop at merely Trump U no longer ripping people off. Right there in the OP: "and left the bilked students on their own to attempt to recover their tuition money from the celebrity businessman."

Good luck with them recovering their money. They got what they wanted to get at the time. What they wanted was a money-back guarantee. Let's face it. They were idiots. And PROBABLY never would file suit if ambulance chasers didn't smell deep pockets.

It's not like these kinds of seminars haven't been around for years, ya' know...

There's a sucker born every minute. Just ask the Amway folks. Which IS a pyramid. Trump U was not. (Meant for Pete EU.)

What? Trump U hasn't been convicted of anything. Defrauded people?? STUPID people lost their money.

Hilarious, you support the decision by Texas to not bring a court case, then use their decision to not bring a court case as a defense of Trump!

You just answered your question about why dropping it was (at least arguably) a mistake. How can Trump U be convicted if gutless state officials don't bring a case against them?

And how are the students to know up front Trump U wouldn't make good on their promises? If everyone defrauded is simply "STUPID" then why have laws against fraud. Obviously someone defrauded is pretty much always stupid on some level, but the thing that makes the markets function pretty well in most cases is if a company says "We will do X, Y, and Z" they will do it. If they do none of those, or only some, they get sued and laws provide remedies to those who got ripped off. All you're doing is saying we should not have those laws, and the state at least should not have their own citizens' back when a company in the state rips them off.

1. It's not number 1 because nobody cares.

Correction: Trump supporters don't care.

2. It's not number 1 because it's a non-issue.

Correction: Trump supporters think it's a non-issue.

3. It's not number 1 because Owens is a very poor resource.

Correction: Donald deliberately lying in order to bilk students of tens of thousands of dollars each is an established fact.

4. It's not number 1 because it's a done deal.

What?

Trump University needed funds from new students to fund its commitments to existing students.. that is a classic ponzi scheme. Regardless Trump University was fraud, and those behind it should be in jail.. like Mr. Trump.

What funding commitments did it have with existing students, pray tell?

It looks like you know little to nothing about the case and what actually constituted the fraud. Essentially Trump U. made a series of promises that weren't kept or were outright lies. One of the big ones was for $35,000, the students would be able to contact Trump U. folks for mentoring and support for 12 months. They couldn't.

Lots more. If you're interested you should read the complaints, like this one from NY: http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/trump.pdf

You guys have bought the party line. Whatever happened to critical thinking?

Tell us what promises Trump U made that weren't kept. And show us that independent contractor salespeople didn't do the lying. That all these supposed lies came from the top rather than from the independent contractors who were saying whatever they had to say to earn their commissions. You can't because, like most others, you have accepted at face value that Trump U itself was lying and cheating. And although never convicted, they must be guilty of something.

I cited the complaint by NY. Read that for the LONG list of unkept promises.

Wow, that's some serious denial there. Basically, that's the defense of every CEO ever. I KNOW NOTHING!!! After all, they're just the top person, how in the hell can we hold them accountable for what happens in the companies they run and receive millions for doing it? It's just not fair to hold THEM accountable!! LMMFAO...

IMO, it was Trump's company, he staffed it, including those at the top who oversaw those independent contractors, and the buck stops with the guy at the top, not some lowlife who was allowed to rip off Trump's clients without anyone above him knowing, or if they did know it was happening, didn't give a damn.

Don't tell me how much I know about it. I know the products were sold by independent contractors. I know puffery when I read it and see it and hear it. Puffery is legal. "We're the best in the business!" Right. puffery. ""You'll be making money in 90 days!" Puffery. If you sign a contract to buy something and it gives you guarantees, you've got so,etching. These people, none of them, have those guarantees. If they HEARD them, they sure didn't hear them from Donald Trump.

Read this. Tell me that this guy didn't get mentoring. He had three. He was complaining and wanting his money back. The article is written as if Trump University itself was HORRIBLE to him. Read it and tell me why. The guy was brainless.

A hundred complaints. Let's hang Donald Trump. Let's string up Anthony Robbins while we're at it.

That's more or less the entire justification for the endless investigations on Clinton. She's guilty of something. They know it. It's all about principle at this point.

Off the subject, wouldn't your avatar make an awesome ink?

There's this little thing called proof. When you bring us "The Blue Semen Stained Dress," we'll come to the table.

Until then, some of you Trump Haters should check in with your local Doc-in-The-Box for a prescription of "Trump Derangement Syndrome Suppositories."

I tend to avoid color in my tattoos. Mostly because it's a hassle to get it filled in again if it fades. I'm getting some elephants tattooed in the near future. Want to do a whole sleve.

I think you need some help for your Bill Clinton Derangement Syndrome.

So the defense of Trump is people should have known Trump U was a scam, the promises they made worthless, and the whole enterprise nothing but a way to bilk uninformed people out of $10s of thousands while offering nothing of real value in return. Oh, and if anyone working for him made any representations, Trump cannot be held liable because it was only his company run by people he hired and he had no oversight of the operations - it was just his company after all so why would we expect the owner to exercise due diligence over how it was run?

Interesting defense! :lamo

I don't believe it was a scam. I think it told people how, why and where to invest in real estate. In a larger way than buying a two-flat. And how do you know nothing of real value was offered? He wasn't selling a product. He was selling knowledge. Mentorship in some cases. There were thousands of people who took the seminars who DIDNT feel fleeced. Of course, you don't hear from them.

I have never seen as many people anxious to lynch someone ever. With even the gvmt with the bottomless pit of money taxpayers supply DROPPING CHARGES, you would still convict him. Never have I seen a successful businessman engender more hatred.

The power of the press. Wow.

That complaint is interesting. Do you have the response docs to that complaint? I would like to see both sides.

Defense?

You just described his whole campaign strategy!

It's mind boggling that some people respect and even applaud the way Donald Trump does business. As long as he is on the "right side" of legal, his business model, which leaves so many involved in a shredded wake, is just a-ok with them. It's like the snake-oil salesman made a bad batch of miracle tonic and put too much formaldehyde in the bottles and the gullible buyers went blind. So what? All is fair in the business world, right? Buyer beware, right? Those dumb asses deserved to go blind, right? The snake oil salesman never promised them, "Drink my snake oil and you won't go blind!" Nope. he never even mentioned the word blind. Can't blame him. No siree.

Is it any wonder the world is as ****ed up as it is? People have completely lost their moral compass in the name of greed and political hackery. Just a damn shame.

As to the bolded, do you hold the same idea when it is a government office?

Should the head of the office be responsible for what happens in their office?

This person Gary Smith says this

"“Trump, as far as I can tell, had no real involvement in this program at all, other than collecting money, obviously. The thing’s a joke, he said.""

What more needs to be said in this thread?

Edit: This guy doesn't really know where the money went so his comment about Trump collecting the money is not correct either.

And now he's asking us to put the same brand on the USA as was put on Trump University.

Following this conversation, we would inevitably have to relate to, or come full circle, back to the issue of Trump's profound lack of substance. But this close to the election, ain't nobody gonna change anybody's mind. So why even bother?

All apologies Mason. My post apparently went right over your head. I could probably use some communication skill .101 classes. Or, perhaps I misunderstood your post altogether.

Please let me try again. I will type slower this time.

I was sort of agreeing with you but in a different light.

People want to defend Trump because his brand on a University or a Vodka bottle doesn't necessarily hold him accountable for the product in and of itself. Can we agree on that? Have we not both read posts here that clearly state that opinion?

Well, if that's so, and Trump has no accountability over the ventures that fly his banner, is that what we will accept as a P.O.T.U.S? A brand name? No accountability? No relative content to Trump, other than buying a label?

We hear Trump himself say that "he" never went bankrupt, only his business ventures did. As others were left holding the bag, Trump being the Gypsie in the palace that he is, made out like a, well, Gypsie in a palace. He's a ****ing punk.

He has ruined people's lives and crushed REAL people's dreams. It's all there in black and white for anyone interested on educating their selves on it. Hell, he don't even deny it. He hides behind the rules of the game and uses it for his defense but his lack of personal character and contempt for anyone other than himself shines through like the sun after an April shower.

And his supporters simply do not care. Hell, some applaud him for it.
