Mexican president disputes Trump over border wall payment discussion

He thinks Trump is full of **** yet invited him to speak to him?

Some people don't get the message unless you deliver it in person.

Better to talk to Trump face to face than let Trump claim he was scared.

Come on Patrick, we have heard a lot about this President, haven't we?

Perhaps you learned all you need to know from Donald Trump. I live in Mexico and haven't heard much about the President of Mexico.

We have heard a lot about Donald Trump though. Has he ever told the truth? Did he avoid the draft by having a high lottery number, as he said, or was it a string of student deferments followed by a classification of Unfit for Military Service? Did he warn any of the suckers on his bankruptcies that he was borrowing far more money than the project could hope to pay back? Was he not talking about Carly Fiorina's looks when he said, "Can you vote for a face like that?" Did he personally see thousands of Muslims celebrate 9/11 in New Jersey? Was he mocking a handcapped reporter or does Donald Trump have mobility problems? Did he say he would deport all illegal aliens or did he say he would give some a path to citizenship? Is he a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment or did he say he'd keep guns out of the hands of "enemies of the state?" Is he pro-life or does he think the taxpayers should continue subsidizing Planned Parenthood? Is he a Republican or does he think we should have National Healthcare like Canada and Great Britain? And then there's Trump University that Donald insists is an excellent educational opportunity that's still in business.

Of course, we know Donald Trump. That's why rational people assume he's lying. We don't know President Peña Nieto.

It is hard to explain to Americans about the names where they don't use the maternal last name at all.

Where I grew up it was quite common, although not mandatory, for a man to have his mother's maiden name as his middle name. Mexico is a little more rigid and confusing.

Then factor in that Hispanics (at least those not in the US) do not take their husband's last name upon marriage. Rather, the woman keeps her previous paternal and maternal name.

In the US, his last name could well be seen as one name. In Mexico, though, both names are distinct. Thus, Mexicans can be said to identify as having two last names.

Older Mexicans will give both automatically. Younger Mexicans may have to be prompted for their maternal last name as the U.S. "single last name" format is slowly creeping in.

It is always weird to see somebody with the same fraternal and maternal last name.

It makes one think something weird was going on.

For example "Jose Reyes Reyes"

You are in Oaxaca and I am in Sinaloa.

We have heard, especially just after the election, a lot about him.

I used my official name to sign up with Paypal and they used my maternal last name as my last name, which is not correct.

I learned when registering with American companies to drop the maternal last name.

I blame feminists for all of this.

TheDonald says that payment for Trump's Great Wall never came up during the meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. Enrique Peña Nieto says otherwise.

I can't imagine Peña Nieto sitting silently and saying nothing in his nation's capital city as Trump spits out Great Wall demands and implied economic threats.

Why is Trump lying? To create an illusion of diplomacy skills and international statesmanship.

It is quite possible that Nieto started the meeting by saying 'Mexico would not pay for the wall' and Trump said 'we will discuss that later.' Both statements could be true and neither man lying.

Usually something weird did go on. The duplication of the paternal name is usually a duplication of the maternal name.

This is done in situations where the last name of the father in not known (one night stands). It still gives the kid two last names so his illegitimacy is not obvious (well, not too obvious). And, as some Garcia to Garcia marriages do occur, it is also possible that the kid in question could be legitimate.

How do you know he doesn't?

An American politician is offended if you say he's a lying crook. A Mexican politician is simply confused if you say he's a lying crook and says, "What's your point?"

We know Donald and we know he's a liar.
We don't know the president of Mexico. He may be a liar but I doubt he could be as big a liar as Donald Trump. Hardly anyone can. He even lies about stupid things that make no difference. "I started with nothing but a small loan from my father and fought my way to the top." Oopsie. That small loan was $1,000,000 and he forgot the $3,500,000 loan from daddy that they tried to pretend wasn't really a loan.

Donald Trump lies as much as Barack Obama. Donald Trump and Barack Obama have a lot in common.

Who is "we"? Why do you have an aversion to listing your location? I can understand not wanting to list your political leaning if you're a Trumpkin but your location isn't bad.

Who said I have an aversion?

There was a lot of information in the media about Peña just after he won.

Were you here then?

So if Trump's reply to Nieto was nothing at all or "Let's discuss that after I'm sworn in", that would still constitute a discussion?

Let's look at it this way.
If you told me to "Go **** yourself." but I didn't answer because trolls on discussion websites do stuff like that all the time, would you still say we had a discussion abut me ****ing myself?
It would most certainly not constitute a discussion.
But if I then asked you if you had any suggestions as to where or when, or, more likely, how such a thing could be done and you replied that you had photos of your own experience along those lines, then THAT could be called a discussion.
Comprendo?

Greetings, bubba. :2wave:

:lamo You and humbolt sure are keeping me laughing today! Great start to a new month!

The last paragraph in your post required a minor cleanup of my keyboard - fortunately I didn't have a lot of coffee in my mouth when I read it - so it was worth it! Thanks! :kissy:

No, I was in Oaxaca. Perhaps you can tell me something about his history of lying. Does he lie about his childhood and go forward lying as does Donald Trump? Does he lie about his ancestors as does Donald Trump? Has Donald Trump said anything that can be substantiated as the simple truth?

You didn't list your location because?

Since he was born on June 14, 1946, and the draft lottery number for his draft was 356: https://www.sss.gov/Portals/0/PDFs/1970.pdf, seems like he was truthful on that one and you are left with 1 dis-proven innuendo. I believe that is a Spanish word for make stuff up.

I know you have a hard on for Trump but not everything needs to be compared to him.

As far as my location goes, I will be the one to bring it up in conversation if need be.

Nieto brought the PRI back to power. He's one of the most corrupt national leaders in the world.

The Phillipines? I always thought the Mexican naming format was easier to keep track of as last names stay last names.

You're right. I should have said confusing to Americans. And, the name doesn't change when a woman marries, unless she marries someone famous as in Marta Sahagún de Fox.

Why do you automatically assume Trump is lying and not that Mexican?

Because Mexicans never lie, and if you think they do, you're racist.

Nonsense. Peña Neito is simply a PRI politician. He did not bring Mexico's equivalent of Democrats back to power. He's simply the figurehead the PRI decided to put there.

And, this is an amazing departure from the 70+ year rule by the PRI:
"The Pacto por México is an agreement inked by Mexico’s three main political parties on December 2, 2012—a day after President Enrique Peña Nieto’s inauguration. The pact consists of 95 initiatives agreed upon by the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the National Action Party (PAN), and the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). The signatories representing the three parties were President Enrique Peña Nieto, Interim President of the PRI Cristina Díaz Salazar, President of the PAN Gustavo Madero, and President of the PRD Jesús Zambrano. The governors of Mexico’s 31 states, the head of Mexico City’s government, and the presidents of the upper and lower houses of Congress attended the signing ceremony. On January 28, the Green Party also signed on to the Pacto por México—or Pact for Mexico."

Mexico is struggling with learning to share power. That's something Democrats in the U.S. could learn from.

I hear they are stringing up wires in Oaxaca, so they'll hear about him soon too.

Let's see, a high lottery number that kept him out of the draft for a couple of months or the Unfit for Military Service classification which kept him out for the rest of his eligibility. No innuendo. Now, if I said his father bought the doctor's bone spur story, that would be innuendo. And Donald Trump saying he wasn't drafted because of a high draft number is a lie. That's the English word for what Donald Trump does.

I have always wondered where the Phillipino name format comes from. The Spanish format seems to mirror the Mexican format. I wonder if the Spanish naming format changed in the past, and thus the Phillipines inherited "version b"?

I think this happened with the Spanish language. I believe Spain dropped the vosotros usage at one time. This led to the vosotros variant not being exported to the new world ( a few exception exist like Uruguay). Then, Spain re-instated it for home use, so they have it today.
