North Korea Fires Missile from Submarine

It's bad to underestimate your opponents.

I go by their past "advancements" and the usual threats from the crazy man child.

The present despot of North Korea is indeed unstable but not stupid; his instinct for self-preservation is strong and he will not risk his own destruction. He is obviously a pleasure seeker, whether in food or sex. This hedonist wants to feed his enormous body and ego but certainly not to become a martyr. His constant threats, grandiloquent and absurd, have never been followed by concrete actions against South Korea. He needs to receive food and medications for his ailing people who might eventually revolt out of famine and kick him out. He knows that and will maintain backdoor channels to ensure his benefactors, the Chinese, do not turn against him.

Big deal.

What are they going to do with it?

1) Fire it at South Korea? Nope...America would probably nuke much of the North if it did.

2) Fire it at America (assuming it has the range to reach America)? No chance...America would completely obliterate North Korea from the map.

Kim-Il-FatMan knows this full well. And if there is one thing all dictators have in common - it's they want to continue to be dictators. No way the North ever uses it's nukes.

It is just doing this to either a) stomp their little feet to try and get more concessions/freebees from the West. Or b) Kim-Il-FatMan needs to scare his citizens some more so they forget how hungry they are.

What do you expect when we have a clueless President that has made America into a laughing stock across the world. No one respects us any longer.

Japan is the only country in this survey which thinks we are less powerful than we were 10 years ago.

That's from Pew research. 85% of Europeans have "no confidence" in Trump. In other words, he's literally a laughing stock.

I'm guessing you don't read or watch (on purpose) any news and sometimes listen to Republican radio. I like to guess.

He could sell his nukes to someone we don't like, who could cause us problems. Actually, NoKo has already proliferated ballistic missile tech to Pakistan, another country America is concerned about. Both NoKo and Pakistan are like China's twin fists, doing its dirty work for it, since China set them up with this ability in the first place. These 2 rogues can then proliferate to each other, like one hand washing the other, without China being directly involved, thus allowing it plausible deniability.

Meanwhile their ability to hold a knife to the throat of the world grows.

Sell to who? Almost no terrorists can afford them. And no way a country would sell to terrorists anyway. Terrorists are nuts - you don't know what they will do. So you don't know they won't sell the nukes you sold them to someone who hates you and use it on you. So terrorists are out.

And who cares if they sell to other countries...it's the same scenario as NK. No one will dare use a nuke against America because they know they will be completely obliterated if they do.
And besides, it's the same sort of situation as with terrorists. When you start selling to smaller countries, you do not know what they will do with them. They could sell them to some you don't like.

Finally, manufacturing nukes is not that difficult..the technology has been around for generations. Any country can build an atomic bomb (minus the core)...it is making/acquiring the type of fissionable material to make it work that is the hard part. And even that is no secret...it just can take a LOT of effort/money. Plus, you have to deal with potential sanctions if you do. So it is not really worth it.

And again...using it against a major nuclear power is pointless because it almost instantly means your own complete annihilation.

North Korea is complex issue given it's Geography. It should be 'its geography'. Glad to help on this complex issue :)

I don't think the U.S. President had anything to do with the NK missile program.
