Twitter lit up Friday night with allegations that it tried to suppress news that secret-leaking website Wikileaks exposed thousands of emails obtained from the servers of the Democratic National Committee.

Friday afternoon, users noted, "#DNCLeaks" was trending, with more than 250,000 tweets about it on the platform. By Friday evening, it vanished completely from the site's "trending" bar for at least 20 minutes. It returned as "#DNCLeak" after users erupted, though it was too late to quell their rage.

The DNC email dump is causing all kinds of crazy stuff.

private company, it is their right to do whatever they want. More faux outrage from the American right wing.

What?
These are a mix of Bernie supporters and Trump supporters.

Pete, you're pure comedy.

No you are pure comedy.. what Twitter does to its "trending" algorithm .. if there is even such a thing, is up to Twitter. They routinely censor the "trending" bit, else you would see far more sexual and political (radical) than there is.

Yep, it's a conspiracy from the right wing.
Keep on, keeping on. :lamo

Eh?

Who said anything about a conspiracy? All I said was that it was just more typical faux outrage from the American right wing. Anyone can see what you are doing here... trying to hurt the Democrats and Hilary.

Do you really think that the GOP does not have a similar email traffic on Trump or/and the others?

Why is it "faux outrage" where is my "outrage" and why is it "faux?"
They're hurting themselves, they caught got with their pants down and it's just day one of the wikileaks release.

Do you really think that the GOP does not have a similar email traffic on Trump or/and the others?

I'd love to see and post those as well, but what I do have from them?
Nothing right now.

Because it is a typical Fox News bull**** story.

They're hurting themselves, they caught got with their pants down and it's just day one of the wikileaks release.

How on earth can they be hurting themselves? This is personal emails and documents that have been stolen and released. They were never ment for public viewing.

I'd love to see and post those as well, but what I do have from them?

Not sure you would.. I suspect there would be a lot of anti-Trump stuff plus worse. But lets see if the hackers have hacked the RNC..

Not a fox news story, although they'll probably report on it too.
But so far they've allegedly shown that MSNBC and CBS are working with the DNC.
Possibly WaPo as well.

Practically proves that they went against Bernie, even though it's against their own rules.
Possible money laundering and collusion with media outlets.
It's early and these are allegations, not completely substantiated.

Not sure you would.. I suspect there would be a lot of anti-Trump stuff plus worse. But lets see if the hackers have hacked the RNC..

I have no doubt there would be and it would be just as entertaining.

So is the NYtimes, CNN, NBC, CBS, ETC. Is it OK for them?

Everyone with a hate boner for the DNC is going to have a very good weak.
This is the first batch of released emails.
They plan to release more as the days come up to the convention.

That happened 7 years ago with the never ending PC BS and the sermon on the mount with the WH .

It would be fine if the private company were not constantly making efforts to declare itself as neutral and unbiased. If they then interfere with that neutrality, they lose credibility. That's what this is about.

Funny how credibility suddenly matters for the right..... so Twitter should not interfere at all?

Credibility has always mattered to me, doesn't it matter to you?

If you want to maintain neutrality and the credibility that goes along with it, you do not interfere, if you have ethics about it.

It matters massively to me.. which is why I dislike Fox News. Guessing you do too then if it matters so much to you? Or any conservative/right wing site out there?

But lets be real here. Twitter is not exactly a massive social media outlet. It has falling user numbers and is a takeover target by the big boys. Chances are Twitter will be sucked up by Facebook or Google or even Apple by the end of the year.

Most people have no idea what "trending" is and certainly most dont know how it is calculated. Now logically it would be calculated by mentions, but those that follow technology knows that this is not exactly how Twitter or any website works. If it did, then you would see ISIS and sexual acts at the top of all trending lists, but you dont. Hell most of the time I have no idea why stuff is trending, because the Twitter universe is such a small one that it does not reflect the real world. It is so easy to get things to trend in most countries, even in the US. Look at Jimmy Fallon and the Tonight show or the Conan O Brian show on TNT.. both have had trending issues on Twitter... just because they got a few thousands viewers to post about it.

So what if Twitter does this? The whole internet does it. There is not one conservative web site out there that is not being censored, so it is absolutely rich that it is the conservatives that are complaining about this. Twitter is a private company that provides a service and as soon as they dont base their "trending" on mentions, then it becomes "biased and censored" but there is nothing you can do about that.. unless you want to see some disturbing stuff on the trend list.

So twitter users complained on twitter that twitter was suppressing something for 20 minutes? Several things sound off about that, really think there is a simple explanation, and that alot of people will not accept it.

It was in regards to all this other stuff.
Sounded interesting.

Ummmmmmm....mostly it is going to be Sandernistas outraged. It is usually best not to chime in on events of countries you know nothing about. Just a little advice.

Maybe I don't have enough caffeine in me yet, but not at all following what you are referring to with that.

What I find amazing is that anyone is surprised that the DNC would conspire to sabotage the campaign of an independent candidate running as a Democrat. I'm shocked---not at the info in the leaks, but at the stupidity of the American public who thinks this is a big deal.

It's really just the tip at this point.
There are a lot of allegations in the reddit threads.
Some of the emails I've seen support it, although I may be ignorant of the laws regarding what they're saying.

This isn't about Fox news. You can quit trying to bait me, first with questioning how I judge credibility and now by trying to shoot a messenger that isn't even part of the story.

How Twitter's Trending Algorithm Picks Its Topics : NPR What this means, and neither you nor I is disputing it, is that Twitter makes certain claims about being neutral in their trending topics but, in fact, they control their trending topics tightly. This goes to demonstrate their honesty about their process and how they obscure that to engage in bias without consequence. This shows a lack of credibility and transparency. Which is the point.

So your excuse for Twitter is that everyone does it. But you seem to be perfectly ok railing against Fox news but a word of criticism against Twitter is not allowed? The only conclusion I can draw is its ok when the bias works for your political interests, not to mention protecting their credibility when they agree with you.

I thought you said credibility mattered to you?
