Trump's remarks on NATO set off freakout

Donald Trump make the rest of the world very worried of the prospect of him being the president of the USA. Including right wing politician that are both very USA friendly and likes the Republican party. For example here in Sweden the former right wing prime minister and secretary of states Carl Bildt tweeted that “If Donald Trump was to end up as President of the United States I think we better head for the bunkers.” That at the same time Bildt is so pro USA that he as been accused of having worked for the CIA.

Also according to Sara Skyttedal one of Sweden's most right wing politician “we are not scared enough of Trump”. In the UK, Boris Johnsson the British version Donald Trump have made this quote, 'The only reason I wouldn't visit some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump”.

I don't remember the same outrage from the Democrats side when Obama refused to honor our obligations with Ukraine.....

Actually we did:

To respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.

To refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine

To seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used.

That was what we had agreed to do for Ukraine.

How easily they forget Obama's "Red Line In The Sand."

"Every liberal is a fascist at heart." -Anon

Liberals: It's a crime that we fund our military so much! We shouldn't be the police of the world!!

Trump: Maybe we shouldn't be police of the world. Maybe other NATO members should be able to defend themselves...

Liberals: OUTRAGE!!!!!

That's a straw man from start to finish, so I'll just emphasize that it's far from just "Liberals" who are 'OUTRAGED" at this clueless moron. He's the nominee for POTUS and speaking like his words mean no more than Cliff's know it all drunken musings at the Cheers (TV show) bar.

And guess what? Russia has ambitions of becoming as powerful as the old Soviet Union.

In other news, water is wet.
Russia is such an overused red-herring among ultra-capitalist imperialists, like House Clinton.

Oh...my...****ing...god...

Dude, srsly, look up what the word "deploy" means, or read your own source.

Oh... my... ****ing ... gid...

Dude, srsly, look up what "threaten" means.

They threatened to....put stuff in Ukraine's garage. That is not exactly what the agreement we had with the Ukraine was talking about.

It was a threat involving the use of nuclear weapons.

Really your position is the same as Trump. You look for any way to not hold up defense obligations.

I've said repeatedly that what Trump brings to the Presidency is nothing but chaos, in particular on the international stage. I noted that his petty snit with the mayor of London was just a tiny hors d'oeuvre -- a microcosm -- of the discord he would engender with our closest and most strategic allies. I was expecting the genuine alarms among our allies to be set off after (shudder) he might have been elected President. Trump, however, couldn't wait til January, so apparently he said "Screw it, I'll start now."

Pence, meanwhile, has been put in the position of having to appear to directly contradict Trump while also echoing his sentiments:

I already feel sorry for a Trump administration's press secretary.

Trump's remarks on NATO set off freakout - POLITICO

I'm encouraged to see that Trump is willing to shake the tree and put other Nations on notice that they have obligations too.

It's interesting to see all the straw clutching, especially by liberals, who have been railing about military spending, and demanding money be spent on infrastructure, etc..

It seems to me, like so many things, the ones complaining are the ones who are guilty of abuse of NATO commitments and principles.

Trump is a buffoon.

But he does say some good things...this (the headline anyway) is a good one.

No country should EVER automatically go to war based on some prior agreement unless it has decided that it is in it's own best interests to do so at the time of the war.

NATO should have ended when the Cold War did.

Ukraine and Georgia prove otherwise.

Okay, you're obviously not understanding.
The United States spends 10 times the amount on its military than Russia. Ten times! (10x!)
The United States has 10 times the amount of air craft carriers than Russia does. Ten times! (10x!)
Russia has ZERO supercarriers.
The USA has ELEVEN.
Russia has a couple thousand aircraft.
The USA has OVER 13,000!

Besides the fact that Russia maintains a lone aircraft carrier while the U.S. Navy's 10-carrier fleet operates on a continuing global deployment cycle, the U.S. is larger than Russia with regard to its manpower,
active and potential,
its average armed population,
and the sheer demographic size and variety of the US,
alongside the variability of the U.S. geographical structure.

Russia is also boxed in by the EU, surrounded by NATO, flanked by China - where as the U.S. has access to both major oceans with ease, is unchallenged and unrestrained by regional neighbors. The EU is essentially one massive fortress thanks to joint-controlled missile defense systems in the Balkans, Poland, and - soon - the Baltics.

So even if (that is a BIG IF) Russia got past the EU and America's NATO allies, America itself would remain unchallenged.

I'm curious as to why you think that Trump will not insist on being his own Press Secretary.

But yeah. Broadly, this guy is an abomination, on many levels, as a POTUS candidate.

Trump has already indicated that if elected his Press Secretary will either be John Baron or John Miller.

Except one little problem....its Republicans as well as Democrats who are speaking out today about how irresponsible these statements and positions by Trump are.

One should surmise by my post that I don't care what some Republicans and Democrats think about his statements.

That problem is apparently yours and theirs.

It is not mine.

Estonia is one of 5 NATO countries that meet their full defense obligations, and participate without caveat in places like Afghanistan where we ask them to. Trump wasn't showing foreign policy acumen, he was showing ignorance.

Well...in typical fashion...you were attempting to argue that the Democrats are coming all unhinged. Too be honest...you have to recognize that just as many Republicans as Democrats are calling Donald Trump ignorant on foreign policy and that his statements are reckless and dangerous.

Don't forget recklessness...

True. That should be a given where he's concerned, but it's especially worth noting here.

Everything that conservatives have gotten angry at Obama for doing (reducing the trust of our allies, emboldening our enemies, putting America down) Trump is now doing. And his fans are fine with it.
