Re: University of Cincinnati police officer who shot man during traffic stop charged

I didn't think we charged police with crimes.

Well it's up to the State to prove the charge then. There have been a lot of fatal shootings of unarmed folk as of late, and we're going to need to be serious about reviewing those and when wrong doing is found, punishing those at fault.

Re: University of Cincinnati police officer who shot man during traffic stop charged

Looks like we will have to wait for some of the camera footage of the incident, but it is time we hold officers accountable to unarmed people being shot to death. If the evidence is there, this officer should be prosecuted to the limit of the law. Without question.

I read an article a few months back. The officer stated that it was far too common for Officer to continue, follow, pursue an individual, who posed no threat to anyone, while the Officer had more than enough information to locate the individual from drivers license, and other information gained at the stop.
Yet many continue escalating what should be a simple case and it ends in deaths and or injuries.

Good for Cincinnati but let's see if the officer is actually convicted.

^^^ This. I'd want to see the camera footage. The cop was wearing (apparently) a body camera which was working, so why would he basically execute this man on camera.... ? That doesn't make much sense to me but hey, truth is many times stranger than fiction.

Re: University of Cincinnati police officer who shot man during traffic stop charged

If the officer shot him without cause it is murder.
We will have to wait and see what the evidence is.
With many of the recent cases it was questionable.
I have always said that there were enough real cases of Police brutality out there without
holding the weak ones up as examples.

Who knows? But it appears this officer will have his day in court and present his defense. If the defense's case does not justify the shoot, then we can safely assume the camera evidence is rather damning. And that is how this is supposed to work, get all this out in court.

I know. But several here "poo-poo'd" that idea back when the black guy in SC was shot in the back after being stopped for lack of child support payments. And brought up a SCOTUS ruling that they attempted to use to justify it.

Yeah, *anyone* can leaven *anywhere* and go and harm someone, lol. Doesnt mean these suspects, fearful for their lives and fleeing polices (and apparently there's plenty of reason they should be!) are a danger to the public.

Because he has seen that even when footage is presented, police can still kill unarmed black people and not even get indicted.

That certainly isn't the case in SC. Though I grant you, the NYPD on Staten Island was indictable IMO. No other case pissed me off more than the Garner case.

This article is relevant to your points: The video of police killing of Sam Dubose is apparently so bad, Cincinnati is preparing for riots

Apparently the Police Chief and the City Manager have already seen the video and are so worried at how bad the video appears that they are concerned about riots.

The officer said that as Dubose drove off, he was dragged by Dubose's car and shot him because he "feared for his life". The footage shows that the officer lied and he was, in fact, not "dragged" by the car. I don't know why the officer lied even though that he knew his body camera was on, but he did.

It isn't a state-by-state thing, but rather a nationwide thing. Hell, look at Tamir Rice, the cops just rolled up and blasted him. Or look at John Crawford, where the person straight up lied about Crawford carrying a gun around and pointing it at people (the video proved the person's story to be false as well) and yet no one was charged for even negligence.

That cannot be good, it stands to reason that if those two are worried about the video then there is a real problem with the officer's account of the shoot. Hopefully the courts will work this out before we get to the riots stage, but I have my doubts. I suspect the number of open records requests for this video will go up dramatically.

It's infuriating. It's also infuriating that there are still people who say that this doesn't happen. The level of denial that so many people exhibit is astonishing. People are dying and you still have others saying there isn't a problem.

Well that video makes things clear as mud.

I'm speaking about the specific incident in South Carolina where the cop shot Walter Scott, which was video taped and the cop went directly to jail and is as far as I know, still in jail awaiting his trial.

Even worse another cop present said that the shooter was being dragged by the car. Typical police attempt to cover bad behavior up.

These two are sociopaths.

Yes the cop lied on his police report as most officers do. Then the department rallied to defend him while perpetuating more lies.

Re: University of Cincinnati police officer who shot man during traffic stop charged

Well you cant see everything in the vid, that's for sure. But you do see the victim's hands right up until the cop gets alarmed. And his hands were not reaching for anything.

Just from that, it looks like another cop lost his **** out there, over-reacting out of fear. (I'm referring to the recent case where the cops with their guns already drawn shot 2 guys, killing one, that they just stopped to ask about bike theft.)

But if they slow it down or the audio and picture can be pumped up better, maybe it will show more.

From that video, I have no idea what set the cop off. But he was not dragged and IMO should not have kept shooting at the departing vehicle.

Re: University of Cincinnati police officer who shot man during traffic stop charged

This is a better video - live leak. It shows the police officer clearly shooting the man in the head right after the man started the engine of his car and put it in drive to evidently drive away from the officer.

Why would he shoot the man at all, much less in the head? Based on this video alone, this appears to be murder. Ohio Revised Code, Title [29] XXIX CRIMES - PROCEDURE, Chapter 2903: HOMICIDE AND ASSAULT, 2903.02 Murder.

The latest - the cop was fired and the prosecutor has gotten a warrant for his arrest with a charge of murder.

Holy crap! so yes, this time I saw the victim actually turn the key and heard the car start.

But the cop never got uptight when the victim reached for the glove compartment or made other hand movements so I dont believe he was worried about firearms.

He just lost his **** when the guy tried to drive away. He over-reacted big time. Why? IMO he couldnt control his adreneline rush but that is just speculation on my part.
