Flag burners get attacked by bikers[W:634]

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

I support the right of these people to burn the flag. If they happen to get their asses kicked for doing it, oh well. They didn't have the balls to stand up for what they were doing, and that doesn't surprise me at all. Honor is foreign to them.

The left is infamous for not understanding that actions have consequences.

What?

Just because something someone else does offends you is no justification for physically attacking them.

Our system is based on a right to self-defense. There is no right of "aggressive-offense."

You can express yourself by jeering, shouting people down, counter-protesting, suing in court if you can show libel or slander, etc.. There are all sorts of non-violent ways to counter freely expressed opinions that you do not agree with.

Kicking someone's ass is not one of them.

I don't like it when people burn flags. But if they bought it, they have a right to do with it whatever they will as long as they don't endanger anyone else physically, or other people's property.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Had to do a double and triple take at the hairy dude in the skirt.

He couldn't afford Caitlyn's makeover?

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

I am kind of surprised the bikers didn't want to kick his ass...

You have to remember they're bikers, so being able to focus on two things at the same time isn't one their strong suits.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Dude, he couldn't even afford a shaver.

perhaps obama care can remedy that.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

And nothing says "Hopitality" like a war flag of a traitorous army

Yet guess what? People come to Richmond from all over to Hollywood Cemetery (loaded with Confederates from President Davis on down) and obviously they are not "offended" by the Confederate flags everywhere.

Is that an example of that SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY?

Its encouragement for someone who obviously hates the South to stay where they are.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

A group of law abiding citizens is attacked by a mob of right wing thugs, and unsurprisingly, some DPers approve

Law-abiding anarchists? That's an oxymoron. These people are clearly confused.

<----Anarchist and law abiding.

Yes, it's a thing.

Maybe, but it is kind of funny. Anarchy by definition describes a state of disorder. "Law-abiding anarchist!":lamo

People can legally burn the flag but there will be others who will react violently when they do so. That's why it is always wise to consider the response whenever you decide to carry out any possibly offense actions. That's just the way it is, and flag-burners should learn to understand that.

Perhaps they can express their feelings in a more articulate and original manner, but doubt that's within their collective abilities.

Most anarchists are not criminals. Most of them are ****ing dumbasses though.

I can appreciate your position. Again, I also dislike when people burn our flag, (or any flag for that matter). But saying "that's the way it is" is not a valid position in a country that is supposed to respect a person's right to free expression. Respect it so much that it is enshrined in the First Amendment of our Constitution.

It is THAT ideal for which I served my country. Beating up a flag burner because one thinks it is the right thing to do is no better than beating up a civil rights marcher back in the 60's because one disagreed with civil rights. Both the flag burners and the civil rights marchers were exercising their Constitutional right to freedom of expression.

Do you know the best way to counter a protest? Ignore it completely, as in "what if they held a parade and nobody came."

Huh?

What is this?

The very first entry on the Confederacy side is 'Liberal Democracy'?

Really?

"Liberal democracy is a form of government in which representative democracy operates under the principles of liberalism, i.e. protecting the rights of the individual, which are generally enshrined in law. It is characterised by fair, free, and competitive elections between multiple distinct political parties, a separation of powers into different branches of government, the rule of law in everyday life as part of an open society, and the equal protection of human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, and political freedoms for all persons."

And,

A liberal democracy is a form of representative democracy with free and fair form of elections procedure and competitive political process. The most interesting feature of liberal democracy is that all adult citizens is given the right to vote regardless of race, gender or property ownership.

Besides the underlying premise that it is based upon individual liberty, the very hallmark of a Liberal Democracy is equal representation & rights under law!

Your source is in erroneous.

The C.S.A. had, almost literally, the exact same Constitution as the modern United States, with an amendment regarding slavery tossed in. Structurally and politically speaking, it was a Liberal Democracy.

Furthermore, as the modern debates over issues like abortion, welfare, and free speech prove, concepts like "human rights," "civil liberties," and even "personhood" are all malleable and highly subjective. The fact that their definition of such terms differed from your own does not disqualify them from the title.

Next question?

There is no question.

Slavery is not Liberal Democracy.

Well... I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong.

The United States is the original "Liberal Democracy," and it had slavery for the first 80 years of its existence. Revolutionary France had slavery as well.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

...Thus, they started to roast the flag, but they didn’t burn it for long. One of the bikers rushed forward in a fit of rage and kicked over the grill, sending embers flying. He then doused it as members of the pro-flag crowd chanted “USA! USA!”

The bikers then started trying to rough up the protesters — who were quickly saved by members of the same police force that they criticize.

The protesters were shielded by the cops and escorted out of the park.

“I served in the Marines,” said counterprotester Brian Christopher, 23. “We defend this flag. We are ready to die for it. When I see people burning it and showing complete ignorance, it’s very offensive.”

No arrests were made in the scuffle, and the group’s flag-burning stunt went up in smoke.

I laughed, I cried, I fell down. I was entertained.

Yeah I know; free speech, fairness, law and order, blah blah blah.

The bikers didn't give a ****, though. They saw something they loved under attack and acted. I have to respect that, even if they were technically in the wrong.

And I loved seeing the flag burners outed as cowardly ******s lacking the courage to stand up.

Yup. Highly entertaining.

Almost as much fun as this was...

Oops, am I being unfair again? Yeah I am. I don't much care. I don't like hippies. They're just lame. They're the wimpy, whiney annoying kid with "kick me" stuck to his back. It's sort of like stepping on cockroaches, it's just hard not to.

Goshin respects thugs being thuggish when they're doing something he approves of.

Re: Flag burners get attacked by bikers

Not so sure we should be cheering this. I do not like US flag burning either, but what concerns me more is an individual's right to do so. Agree with the decision or not, the Supreme Court has ruled on is matter. The decision went so far as to say it is unconstitutional for a government (federal, state or local) to prohibit by law the desecration of the US flag. Symbolic speech (I think that was the term used in the decision) is covered by the action, or a statement made. When we cheer the intimidation by these bikers we cheer the suppression of rights even though a government was not involved, rights come with the inherent consequence that you will not like or agree with all you hear and see on the account of others. I am all for these bikers expressing their dissatisfaction with this and making that known to these protestors, but intimidation of other's rights is a road we do not want to go down.

Might be a story that makes you smile now (I'll admit, I did,) but it does not end well when you really think about what we are cheering.

Yeah, I agree. One of the bikers said he served in the Marines to defend the flag. But the flag is supposed to represent freedom, so presumably he was really defending that. But what is freedom without free will? I, for one, would never burn the flag, because I know what it represents to those who've spilled blood or lost friends or loves ones defending it. But the moral force given to me to protect and honor the flag comes only when I'm given the freedom to respect it freely and not when I am compelled to do so.

Well, then you better also correct the Wikipedia entry, along with the legal definition, and who knows what other myriad of sources.

The institution of enslaved citizens, by it's very nature, is not co-existent with Liberal Democracy. As I stated, Liberal Democracy at it's very least requires equal representation.

Maybe you have some legal work-around for this, but it sure isn't flying here.
