SC Confederate Flag Taken Down From State Capitol in South Carolina

Now that the flag is down there will be no more racism and no one will ever get shot again

Woah! That's a big one!

No.

But at least the state will no longer fly a flag that says "We hate niggers".

It will be near-Utopia like the black Americans enjoy in every major city in the North.

Needed to happen, but in the end it does not solve much. Remove all the flags and racism will still exist tomorrow.

Didn't realize the confederate flag represented that... Didn't Lincoln support a law in Chicago the essential made it illegal to be a black citizen in Chicago???

You realize that NOBODY is arguing this right. So you're making fun of an argument that was never made. How does that feel? Your comment reads like a toddler stomping his feet after somebody took his toy.

The flag doesnt say that. YOU say that. Some make it mean that. The Confederate flag no more means that than the US flag does.

Wrong, this point needs to be brought up.

I agree that the State should not be flying this flag at the capital. I get it. But these arguments for pressure on private businesses and old Confederate burial grounds brings up the point for us. Remove all the flags, even go so far as to outlaw, and you are left with the conclusion that racial hatred is not cured. Only education does this, which will be submarined by efforts to rewrite it.

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race" -Abraham Lincoln

The swastika has it's origins dating back to ancient China, but if you're flying it generally means you hate jews. We don't need a swastika flying over a state capitol. It kinda sends the wrong message.

Why is the response from the right to a little bit of progress always to bemoan that it won't make everything perfect?

The Confederate Battle Flag is not a Nazi swastika. Some have used it as a symbol of oppression, just as some have used the US flag for the same purpose.

I believe most who are advocate against the flag are not suggesting it be banned, just not flown at the capital (a point you agree with). If a business doesn't want to sell it, that's on them and it's outside of what most people are asking for.

Unless you can show that people the majority are fighting to have it banned outright, cause I've neither heard nor read anyone suggesting that.

The Confederate Battle Flag is not a Nazi swastika.

It has the same meaning for many, black and non-black. Just like the swastika, you can believe it's not offensive, but that just doesn't pan out when rubber meets the road.

Why do find this so hard to understand?

And, again, nobody is saying that removing Confederate flags will "cure" racial hatred. So what the **** are you talking about?

Because crying about a flag being mean is what grown-ups do.

No, it's worse than the swastika. It's the flag that traitors to the USA flew in the war that they fought in support of slavery and racism.

BTW: They lost.

Crying about a flag specifically designed to thumb black people in the eye, pretending it represents Southern pride, is what losers do.

I completely understand you will assign whatever meaning to it you choose. I also believe you have the right to be offended. Similarly...I observe how you just completely ignore the fact that the KKK usurped the US flag and they TOO used it as a symbol of oppression (and perhaps rightfully so considering the US had a history of slavery long before the formation of the confederate states).

Thats not conveeeeeenient.
