SC Confederate Flag Taken Down From State Capitol in South Carolina

Looks like Strom Thurmond to me.
Really? When was Strom Thurmond actually in the Klan. See...I know Senator Byrd was...I hadnt read that about Thurmond. Do you have a source?

Crying about a flag specifically designed to thumb black people in the eye, pretending it represents Southern pride, is what losers do.

Yes, the flag was designed to thumb black people in the eye. You just simplified the topic to the point of absurdity. Congrats.

He wasn't.

I didn't say that he was in the Klan, I said that it looked like him on that horse. Totally different thing.

Of course the back end of the horse looks like him also. Lots of resemblance going on here.

I completely understand you will assign whatever meaning to it you choose. I also believe you have the right to be offended. Similarly...I observe how you just completely ignore the fact that the KKK usurped the US flag and they TOO used it as a symbol of oppression (and perhaps rightfully so considering the US had a history of slavery long before the formation of the confederate states).

Thats not conveeeeeenient.

You're simply refusing the acknowledge the general understand of what the flag stands for. Again, much like the swastika, it's origin intent is not what it's currently understood as.

The American flag does not hold the same meaning to Americans as the confederate flag does. So I'm not sure why you're bring that up and insisting it does.

It's wasn't designed for that, no.

But that's what's it's been used for, and that use has been in play longer than what it was originally designed for.

I absolutely acknowledge what the flag means to some and the assigned meaning given to it by others.

The American flag was used by many as a symbol of oppression. If you dont believe many are similarly offended, you are lost. Its hard to imagine why you can be so insensitive to those that were oppressed under the stars and stripes.

Really? You had the occasion to see Strom Thurmond in a sheet and can recognize him? You may be letting on far more about yourself than really, any of us need to know.

The USA had a history of slavery before it became the USA, before the Revolutionary War was fought.

they still do

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race" -Abraham Lincoln

My uncle always said Lincoln was an opportunist politician if ever there were one

The Confederate Battle Flag is not a Nazi swastika. Some have used it as a symbol of oppression, just as some have used the US flag for the same purpose.

Right, "some" like Governors, the majority of a couple of legislatures....

Good indeed,

I as I said before: A seceding symbol less a day keeps the country more united tomorrow.

Should have been kept flying high and proud! UNfortunately SC's spineless jellyfish of a governor had to cave to political correctness.

Sure, what good is state government if they don't keep flying a relic of a shameful past that offends 1/3 of the population, lots of tourists and prospective businesses, and causes other groups to boycott your state.

What's a little bit telling is the stupid flag has been controversial for decades, especially for the state's blacks. And nothing happens for over 50 years. The business community complains and gets behind the removal, and it comes down in less than a month.

Nothing to be proud from dividing the US in two girl. It is a wonder how it stood as far as it did. I attribute that to tolerance, but enough is enough.

No one was fussing about it until a mentally ill nutcase went on a shooting spree. How about focusing on the law he did break, instead of blaming a flag? Oh wait, that makes too much sense

Last time I checked crybabies did NOT have the "right" not to be "offended" by history. And it wasn't the "business community" that started this whole mess, it was a mentally ill nutcase with a gun that was obtained illegally. Focus on actual laws that WERE broken instead of trying to erase history.

More like sad since people have not been taught the truth about the War for Southern Independence

More like: War of exchanging allegiance from home to England and France.

One way or the other, all dividing symbols must go.

In other words, you think like Stalin. Russia might be a better place for those who want history gone.

If crybabies do not have the right to not be offended then they have the right to be offended by history then?

The nutcase is behind bars and no one is erasing history. It shall be known in history that you were fooled from England and France to secede from USA that caused so many lives.
